and excepting Switzerland and Isreal most of them are totalitarian regimes that look good only when compared to North Korea... what's your point? That if China and Sudan compel military service why shouldn't we?

Did you even read the actual bill? First of all, there are already almost 80,000 government supported volunteer positions that have been filled and have been since the beginning of NCCC in 1993. All this does is bump that up and provide money for up to 250,000. This is a GOOD thing, its not mandated.

The other programs it provides for are educational summer service programs that are also volunteer and will pay up to 500 dollars to school children who decide to participate. That 500 dollars will be applied to college tuition and book costs later down the road.

It provides scholarships to senior citizens who complete community service.

Nowhere in there does it say anything about a mandatory service.

Maybe they're also drinking the WND Kool-Aid. The conspiracy juice is certainly being downed at an alarming rate as of late.

However, I think that article just addresses some of the wording in the bill more than anything, attempting to read between the lines by drawing upon history and similar governmental undertakings.

It seems as if the bill is an attempt to redefine "volunteering." It's also seemingly attempting to replace the role of the parent to engage one's child in volunteering. "The government knows best" mentality.
