my uncle got laid off last year after having had his hours slashed in half. He went back to work two months ago. He works for a builder supply company which means that in his area people are buying supplies to build homes.

He's spot on when he points out the huge amount of debt coming due soon in the form of balloon payments that the debtors are going to struggle making... it is going to hurt. My wife's been talking about it for many months and is cringing about when the bankruptcies start with that wave.

I being one of the recent 16.4% then. Reduction in force.

I've been working the job boards, calling headhunters, and setting up interviews non stop for the last two days.

If it goes longer than 2 or 3 weeks without a job or a good prospect of one, I'm going back to serving tables. At least then in the interim I'd be working 4 hour shifts and making $100 a day.
