![]() | Re: And the dominoes begin to fall... Dude, really? Do you think black people can really compete with white people without the leg-up of affirmative action? Oppressed minorities are downtrodden because they are not good enough to make it on their own. The democrats recognize this and try to help those people out.

It's not so much rural agg that is going away, it is family owned farms that are disappearing. In place, you'll have large agricultural corporations slowly take over those farms. Like manufacturing, farm work will continue to automate and require less of a workforce. The big issue is how to handle the displacement of workers.

Speaking to what happened in WI: Family farms disappeared. Corporate dairy farms consolidated holdings and milk hundreds of cows instead of 40-50. Many milk 24 hrs a day on several shifts and require more workers than the family farm did. Other farmers specialized in cropping single cash crops and many just sold their cows and went to work in the cities.

Sorry, I think I was having a senile rant there... I'm really for sure what the point I was going to make was, if I even had one. lol ![]() *edit* oh, it was the comment about the rural populations providing 100% of resources to the urban population. It would change little as large corporations take over the remaining farms and further automation requires a smaller work force. /searches for cane and medication...

![]() The factory farms still employ a bunch of people but they get a lot more done with automated milking parlors in WI I've got plenty of canes if you need to borrow one

Roe is one of the most atrociously written pieces of legal garbage ever; a fact acknowledged by many pro-abortion people. It was an attempt to give a desired policy force of law. They did it but it's embarassingly dumb. You aware of any rights eminating from the penumbra? I mean other than the right to kill unborn children?

Wow, I guess I should pull the "everybody ignores Dionysos" line after that logical leap. How is the right simply pandering to the pro traditional marriage and right to life crowd? I haven't seen anyone from the right championing gay marriage unless your contention is they're not doing enough until they denounce homos in the streets? Likewise, I'm pretty sure Bush, Jr. actually *did* seek to limit federal funding of abortion programs as well as some of the more heinous abortion practices (i.e. partial birth).

![]() | Re: And the dominoes begin to fall... true... I'd pointed that out all the time when people were harping on the GOP claiming they'd make abortion illegal (never mind that pesky Roe and Casey line of cases). Most GOPers can safely argue for stringent abortion restrictions because they rarely come up for a vote and even when they do SCOTUS strikes them. Thus, the GOP can have a great record to appeal to pro-lifers without really having to do anything.

Well, this obviously points to a greater truth about the usefulness of massive political parties when it comes to actually implementing legislative change on hot button issues...or having the stones to do it.
