i describe myself the same. social lib/economic conservative, but i've had people argue with me that that was impossible because social liberal governemt policies are expensive.

but, here's where the social liberal / fiscal conservative differs and runs counter to those people's arguments...

social liberalism in the sense I espouse doesn't mean entitlements... it means the government leaving people the fuck alone in their personal lives. So, it's probably better described as libertarian I tell her. She then laughs and tells me its just amusing to call me liberal. I, on the other hand, am not amused. I do not take teasing very well. Go figure.
