I think it's key that so many kids don't get the education on how to protect and prevent...

![]() | Re: Health Bill Might Direct Tax Money to Abortion well... chronologically track teenage pregnancy as a rate of population... peaked a while back (90s?) but readily available birth control, the pill, yielded higher rates of teenage sexuality and pregnancy rather than the opposite Quote:

somewhere else I believe I read that the CBO reported that the plan would yield very small improvements in the numbers of people insured because employers would drop coverage for millions of Americans when a cheaper gov't alternative was available... this cheaper alternative would then have the long term effect of making private health care an endangered species... net result = two tiered health care just like today only the lower teir would be much larger. Can't find reference but the argument makes sense

![]() | Re: Health Bill Might Direct Tax Money to Abortion Most of them were married because they got pregnant. Which meant the messing around was still just as commonplace as it is today.

the graph of the rate of unwed pregnancies and teenage pregnancy largely tracks the onset of the pill becoming available to non-married women and the introduction of sex education in public education. Mitigate the likelihood of an unwanted result coming from a rsiky behavior and you'll get more of that risky behavior. As an absurd example... prior to parachutes few people jumped out of airplanes... after their invention many more did. It follows that a HS girl is more likely to fuck if they're on the pill than if they are not. your typical 16 year old in 1860 didn't have the time to hang out with bad boys after school at the malt shop and then go fuck in the back of the Chevy.... they were milking cows and churning butter. Further, it was socially unacceptable to give birth out of wedlock then and it scared the shit out of women. Case in point, my great aunt was a maid for a judge... he knocked her up in 1920. She had to flee town because the previopus year a young girl in the same boat was killed by the married man the got her pregnant. My great great grandfather kicked my aunt's ass out of the house... in WI... in the winter. She lived in a one room shack w/her oldest brother until she gave birth and it took years before she was permitted back into the house. Just because it is amusing.... that great grand-father was conceived out of wedlock as well. His father had knocked up the family maid in Pennsylvania... and his father kicked him out of the house and sent him packing to WI. The fathers' reaction was typical for the era and that fiercely negative social reaction went a VERY long way toward preventing the behavior you're calling common. It happened of course but it was in no meaningful way comparable to young people today.

does seem like sex is a more graphic depiction than it has ever been. Watching 'watchmen' last nite made me think that. The love scenes were graphic, and not really even needed in the context that they were. But then again, i would say 80s movies had an all time high level of violence depicted.

![]() I'll concede that most of the premarital sex was had with the person they were going to marry anyways. Which is obviously different than it is today. I'm just saying that seeing it on TV doesn't make a girl or guy who would otherwise be abstinent perk up and go bang a hooker. Like you said, the pill and in turn the sexual revolution had a lot more to do with where we're at now than sex on tv.
