I'm with you mostly on objecting to this bill but I think you're missing Ash's points.

1) we pay taxes - we do not get to decide which budget elements they get spent on othjer than electing the people who actually do make those decisions

2) harm prevention - while I think it sucks that we must presume people do stupid things that copst tax payers money it is also stupid think they'll stop doing those stupid things. Because that's true its better to spend the dollar today to avoid spending $5 tomorrow to borrow from Ash's post.

the problem with that, imo, is that if we accept the gov't making those decisions when will they decide that it is necessary to deny coverage to fatty mcfat fat and his/her stomach staple because we can't afford to think long term...

another problem... the NYT recently reported that 77% of Americans are satisfied with their health insurance. From anbother saource (local doctor irrc) of the 45-50M american w/out insurance 50% get it within a year and 90% within two. That 45-50M is fluid and transient. Sucks to be there but are we really going to make such a huge shift for a transitory 15% of the population?

Thank you very much. I hope everyone can get out there and start with nothing, work thier ass off for years, and hopefully find a company that will provide for them like mine has. This is the first position I have had in all my years of working that has provided insurance 100%. I was un-insured or kinda insured (If you want to call it that) for years working in shit jobs. But I busted my ass and did all the things necessary to get into a job like this. I didnt come from a wealthy family (divorced....twice) that payed my way. I left "home" at 17 and went into the military for three years. Earned alittle money to go to school and begged or borrowed everything else until I got my degree. Payed off my student loans after 14 years and worked my way up in the industry for 17 years before I landed this position. If we go belly up tomorrow I still would do what I have always done. Make my own way. Pay my own way come hell or high water. My pops told me something a long time ago...."There are no free lunchs in the world son. Dont look to others to pay for your mistakes as they have thier own to deal with. You have got to go out and make it happen for yourself cuase no one is going to do it for you. Always remember this because I dont want you making the same kind of mistakes I made".

I know alot of you were raised with this same "can do" attitude. Why is this not good practice anymore? Why do we need someone to do everything for us these days? Why should the Gov. be my "family inspiration" and tell me how I should handle my life and insist on me paying for everyone elses? Im speaking in general terms of course as there are always exceptions to the rule but Im sure you all get the point.

They pay 100% of the premium. We also have a maximum out of pocket clause that will not exceed $3000.00.

But, you actually think a Gov. run insurance is going to pay $250,000 for you to have cancer treatment? You got another thing coming my good sir. Wait until YOU get cancer and need that treatment and the Gov. says no or makes you wait a year to get started with it like they do in the UK and other places. By the way....my dad ran up a $320,000 dollar bill (his portion never mind what the insurance paid) before he passed and it took alot out of my family to find a way to pay for it all. But we did it and did it proudly. I wasnt happy I had to sell his house and vehicles to help get it done but so be it. He wouldnt have made it as long as he did under Obama care I can assure you. And we could have sorted out some kind of payment plan but it worked out because he was single and wasnt going to need his house or cars any longer.
Shit happens...what are you going to do. Depend on the Gov. to cover all your problems that come up in life and expect others to pay for it? I can handle these things as I always have without thier kind of "help".

whatever... the UK has to search the third world for doctors because their best doctors work hard to get here to work.

whatever... The physicians I speak with, not business contacts but friends, say they don't want Obamacare and voted against him.

They voted against Obama because they are American doctors... not foreign (UK/SA/EU) doctors. One needn't look very far to find a foreign "ingtellectual" who is harshly critical of pretty much anything related to the US so I'd be shocked if those foreign doctors held any other opinion. Not a very helpful testimonial.

Great, i prefer the gov't to cover birth control costs vs. covering the costs of child care.

I can see how this would get abused, but pay outs of 18 years of child care is far greater.
