![]() | Fox News' "Glenn Beck" loses advertisers
By Kenneth Hein NEW YORK (Nielsen Business Media) - Some of the nation's biggest advertisers are distancing themselves from Fox News host Glenn Beck after he called President Obama a racist during a July 28 broadcast. Geico has pulled its ads from Fox News Channel's "The Glenn Beck Program." Lawyers.com, which is owned by LexisNexis, also has vowed not to advertise during the program, according to Color of Change, an African-American online political organization that has been urging advertisers to stop supporting the show. Additionally, Procter & Gamble, Progressive Insurance and SC Johnson all said their ad placements during the broadcast were made in error and that they would correct the mistake. The controversy stems from Beck's comment that President Obama is a "racist" with "a deep-seated hatred for white people." Geico spent more than a half-billion dollars on ads last year, according to the Nielsen Co. It spent more than a quarter-billion dollars in the first half of 2009. A Fox representative noted that Geico is dropping its ads from the show but was quick to note that it was shifting dollars to other programs. "The advertisers referenced have all moved their spots from Beck to other programs on the network, so there has been no revenue lost," the rep said. Beck's show pulled in an average of slightly more than 2 million viewers for each of its 19 telecasts in July, according to Nielsen. Progressive Insurance representative Cristy Cote said that there has been a lot of confusion surrounding the company's involvement with the program. "We had not bought advertising on the show in the first place," she said, "so when we learned that our advertising had appeared on the show by mistake, we contacted the network to correct the error." She said Progressive tries to "avoid programing that we believe our customers and potential customers might find extremely offensive." A Procter & Gamble representative echoed that sentiment: "At times our ads are run by mistake on shows that they were not meant to ... Any of our ads that ran did so by mistake, and we'll try to make sure that doesn't happen in the future." Just keep posting more crap you find on Huffington Post if it'll make you feel better. Because being a leftist means you are enlightened and smarter than the rest of us right?

I think its funny how its only a big deal when its not liberals protesting. I didn't see such outrage across the news channels when its a bunch of liberal protesters throwing nazi shit into the mix for shock value to support their message. But now a bunch of normal people do it (in rare cases, but you wouldn't know it by the way the media portray the lone wacko few and represent them as "all" of the protesters) and its so crazy and extreme and so despicable. "OH, I JUST CAN'T WATCH ANYMORE! HOW DARE THEY!! ITS SO HORRIBLE! when I'm not the one doing it." ANYWAY, we'll see how it turns out in the 2010. We'll see how many swing states turn from blue to red because of the way their current reps are handling this. .

Recent generic ballot polling found (depending on which pollster) that either the GOP slipped ahead of the Dems by about a point on one poll or was within two points on another. I noted this in another thread (and gave links iirc.) While these numbers currently are meaningless in so far as who gets to make the rules (the only ones that matter are Nov actual ballots) it is still significant that the GOP has, since last Nov. closed a chasmous gap between them and the DNC. Who'd have thought a party so deeply tossed into the wilderness would so quickly be knocking on the door. I was shocked anyway. So... Beck, had to watch him because Jonny kept mentioning him, is kinda weird but I don't think the outrageous garbage he sputters is any less outgareous than Olberman's garbage and a lot less vitriolic... now, that's based on some limited viewing so who knows. But, idiot panderers abound though Beck seemed to present more facts than I ever saw from Olberman even if their editorial absurdities seemed close to being on par. |

My mom watches Glenn Beck religiously, so I catch him every now and then when I'm over there. He's out there, but not as obnoxious as Hannity or Limbaugh. Still have to leave the room and/or yell at the TV sometimes, though. haha
