That does appear to be a substantial amount of money spent on some chalboards. Could that money have been better spent? Of course it could have. But I look at like this, at least they were thinking about the children!

I will have to aske my sister about this. She teaches at Rosemont Middle School. Those little brown boys and girls wont be seeing thse chalkboards anythime soon.

Teacher's dont do all that bad. FWISD start around 40,00 or so. I believe a bit more now. That is not too bad of money if you are fortunate enough not to have incurred too much of a debt receiving your education.

Sure a raise would be nice, but what would that really accomplish? Some might argue more money=better teacers. But i tend to disagree.

No because if teachers were paid well then you wouldn't be driving out all the good educators and bringing in over paid babysitters who after three years in school still didn't know what they wanted to do and ended up with a worthless communications degree to show for it.

More money = more motivation = more competetive market = better teachers.

It's like this:

Lets say we socialize medicine and give that same good quality care to every single citizen and illegal alien who steps foot in this country. Now that we're sharing the wealth so to speak, we need to stretch the funds and as a result we lower Dr salaries. So now a Dr makes $15 or $20 per hour, who's going to want to go to all that school just to make less than what you can make working for a corporation using your talents for something else?

Same thinking applies here.

On a practical level I don’t think any amount of money will prevent the high turnover rate in many schools across the country. In this case Ft. Worth, A city with relatively little violence, gang and otherwise, in comparison across the country. The turnover rate is a tad bit high, in my opinion. I don’t think William from Harvard is going to want to make $65,000 a year teaching the high school sciences in Gary, Indiana or in certain parts of Dallas or Houston, etc. To the best of my knowledge no teacher in the United States of America starting slaying begins at that number.


How do we go about changing this? Our government sure hasn’t done much in my opinion to change this? That could take a bit of money away from the war of terrorism. Maybe when the economy recovers after a few years of Obama governance the always bright and brilliant former Alaskan government will take the mantle of education reform during her presidency. One can always dream.

So I assume privatization of schools is the way to go? I hope not.
