H1N1 has been a global story for months. Its dropped off the radar for the summer because that isnt a traditional flu outbreak season.

This is still an very real and very dangerous threat this fall/winter

I think the flu was much more widespread than people are aware of. I've had very close contact with a person who found out she had it... about a week after the symptoms were gone. They amounted to a mild case of the flu. There are probably many thousands of Americans who had it and never knew it because it was so minor.

The second wave, this fall, however, is probably the one to be more concerned with. How much remains to be seen.

Its interesting to me, how those in power can create so much money off of scarcity. Do you guys remember last year when H1N1 came to light in the media, and there supposedly was only ONE thing they knew that could help save your life if you were infected with H1N1?

Someone help me remember, but it was an over-the-counter drug, that suppsoedly was so short on supply that not everyone could get it. Donald Rumsfield just happened to be a chairman for the board of this company... ironic i know. That made ooodles and caboodles of money off of that scare last year.

They make Tamiflu, but it's not the only treatment, and it's only effective against H1N1A. Relenza is the other drug that's effective against it and other forms of flu.

A lot of my technical research is pointing to mid Sept as a key turn date. SPX around 1051 is my key battleground. As the Fed keeps printing debt note (and subsequently rebuying it with freshly printed cash) I have wondered what might trigger a sudden shift in policy.

A Black Swan so to speak.

Flu is relatively predictable though. It happens in known cycles. The degree of harm is relatively consistent etc etc etc. With the periodic anomolously high death toll. We are about due. But our ability to prevent and treat is much greater now than ever before. The swine flu epidemic raging through the UK right now has claimed 59 lives.

Let's see how that pans out. Starting the countdown to "midnight" as we speak.

Not to poke too much fun at you, DA, but you almost make it sound like we are to til midnight in this scenario (with the other factors you are alleging). I was thinking November (when you deal with end of year, holidays, and the dreaded start of the "true" flu season).

Either it will be a rough Christmas or the start to a better path. I hope (Obama jokes go here).
