Britain: Alzheimer's not a "health condition"

An example of an omniscient governing healthcare body enacting its heavy hand to redefine known physical conditions as something else:

http://www.telegraph.co.uk/health/he...condition.html

Just another example of the "reform" that awaits anyone who signs up for this ballyhooed far-reaching public option.

Re: Britain: Alzheimer's not a "health condition"

Well, perhaps there was a rosy side to the story.

Still, it's an example of the kind of control some are willing to yield to such a bureaucracy that is frightening, along with the complications therein.

Here's a gem of a quote about Canada's socialized healthcare:

""We all agree that the system is imploding, we all agree that things are more precarious than perhaps Canadians realize," Doing said in an interview with The Canadian Press." (Incoming Pres of the Canadian Medical Association).

Umm...we have that here. It's called medicare. It has its own issues, but our elderly would be completely fucked without it.

Perhaps, but what prevents private insurance companies from making the same judgement?

Leaving that up to the private industry (who can be sued and will face accountability for their actions) as opposed to an ever-growing bureaucracy that is shielded from legal suits...I'll take the former any day.

sued... yes, all the time.. accountability, little. (at least for the insurance conglomerate I used to work for.)

Personally, whether there's a congressional investigation on the one end, or a class action lawsuit on the other, I still see neither side as having any advantage over the other in terms of accountability.

Re: Britain: Alzheimer's not a "health condition"

if you are poor and dont have any health care and you dont get any treatment, you are going to die sooner than if the gov't gives you healthcare.

will it be the best treatment money can buy? no. will it be better than nothing, yes.

This example fails...hard. It would've been completely out of pocket if they lived here in the states. So the fact an ombudsman came back and ruled in their favor means that someone just fucked up and the system is fine. The NHS is still quite a bit better than what we have here.

You'd better hope you don't have a preexisting condition.
