When WildEarth Guardians filed two petitions in the space of a month to list 681 species under the Endangered Species Act, it came as a shock to biologists at the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service. Organizations normally seek protection for just one animal or plant at a time. The Center for Native Ecosystems, another group active in petitioning under the Endangered Species Act, has filed requests involving 27 species over the last 10 years. So the filing of nearly 700 offerings at once struck federal officials as excessive. The Endangered Species Act requires the Fish and Wildlife Service to make and publish specific findings for petitioned species within 90 days, to the extent practicable.

"This was not envisioned by the [act] and it's not helpful to us at all because it takes an enormous amount of resources to look at this," said Fish and Wildlife Service biologist Ann Carlson. "Very few of those [in the petition] need our help, and it's taking away from the species that do need our help."

Hmm.. Since the Agency is required by law to process requests "in a timely manner", could it be to:

1) Overwhelm the system so that you can say it is broken... and replace it with another.

2) Take down several birds with one stone.

exhibit a: Many of the 'natural habitat' lands of the supposed endangered species just happen to be the same lands that contain lucrative natural gas shales.

exhibit b: farmers, cattle industries and others will no longer be able to continue their business on 'endangered' species land.

Hmmm? wonder what's up.. kind of like... overwhelming the congress and Americans with several monstrous bills at one time.

I guess no one knows about this one, because it's not a 2 second soundbite on MSNBC, ABC, CBS... etc.

I don't know, but you seem to be the one who's watching the most network news on here. With all the posts showing a liberal bias on MSNBC (shocking!) and the Glenn Beck videos.

Sure, it's kind of important for people to know how they are being manipulated.

Not that I expect anyone in the music/entertainment industry to care about 'actual' issues....

Since very few media outlets are talking about it.. I figured I'd Just bring it out to see if anyone else thinks it's kind of a strange thing to do. Like they may be trying to do something 'other' than protect certain species.
