Well between you and myself and the rest of this DDM A & P crowd, this was nothing more than a buffer to buy time to figure out what the fuck to do and put some of the focus back on the Reps while Pres O and friends figure out what to do next.

"Smoke and mirrors", if you will. As you see, that endeavor has gone over swimmingly, but as you said, the SUBSTANCE needed for real change was lacking for me last night (I had to watch it online at work).

Still a nation divided and not fully informed as to what the hell we are getting. I'm still a supporter of the original cause, but am holding firm to my year one (or supreme fuck up) period for judgment.

Back to our little "bet" on action, we still have until the end of October to see if the economy is actually correcting itself, DA.

The date is becoming increasingly irrelevant due to the massive liquidity prop the government has under the market.

The economy has done nothing but get worse despite all of the valiant efforts by the government. The only way we could pull through this in any meaningful manner is by the consumer continuing to take credit which is showing record contractions.

If the consumer contracts (as it should anyway) its game over... we just dont know it yet... JP6 wise.

The consumer is 70% of GDP. Contract at what appears to be an annualized rate of 8-15% and do the math. Ever increasing government debt becomes the only prop. At some point the game will have to end. My original target dates for a market correction were mid Sept with a target of 1051 on the S&P. Getting close...

Its not like its going to go to pieces in a week. Im talking a year to multi year decline. The type of decline that wipes out anything and everything in its path with complete demoralization.

Just remember... after the crash of 29 there was a 45% rally... then the REAL GD started. By the time the early 30s were rolling in the market had lost some 90% from its peak.

welp... here's my $.02

what's proposed in a nutshell:

(1) rework the Balanced Budget Act of 1997 & the Medicare Prescription Drug, Improvement, and Modernization Act of 2003 by fixing the bloated Part C.
(for the people that don't remember... part c allows you to stick with a private insurance company and that company receives direct payments from the government)

Medicare goes back to a normal Part A & Part B choice with Supplimental Plans available from somewhere in the neighborhood of 1000 different private Insurance Companies

(2) In the process... try to overhaul Medicare as a whole. Bring it to this century in ways administration. fix what's needed... save a shitload of money. it's going to take an act of Congress to do this... why the fuck not? it needs to be overhauled... it's all old shit with a half-hearted addition (re: part C) that got porked over 2 administrations.

then...

(3) shift those billions into financially backing a Non-Profit company that is set up to pay for base levels of health care. As with anything in life, there are different levels of service... VIP Bottle Service, to Backstage Passes, to Lawn Seating... This non-profit provides Lawn Seats to the show. They create a base line service that everybody can have input on RIGHT NOW! ...we just haven't seen shit from the republican side other than redtaping the fuckall out of this.

Companies can buy into the Lawn Seats. Insurance companies can create products on the fly... They create competing plans that offer some VIP treatment here and there. Hell, the possibilities are endless with products that can be sold. There can be a special (think Aflac duck commercial here) Private Hospital Room Supplement or whatever... think of something and they can make a product to sell. money can me made just fine all around. Free Market (which i ADORE!) will go fucking gangbusters.

as a small business guy i get fucked in the ass over health insurance. too small for group coverage. this is soooo fucking needed in this world today. with all the billions handed over on bullshit and to be upset about truly making a difference in our own backyard is nonsense to me.

what it really boils down to is that it's a diversion of monies that you don't want to happen.

we won't fall and crash. you know our economy is by far the strongest in the world and it ain't going anywhere anytime soon.

health care should be a benefit for being a citizen of the USofA.
forecasters are predicting we will be in dire need of labor and will need incentives like this in place to compete on the global market.
