The judge backed out of his word twice and kept succumbing to media pressure when the prosecution and defense came to an agreement on the punishment. I'm not saying what he did is not a big deal by any means. I'm just taking into account the laws from back then and he was probably treated worse than your everyday pedophile. At least with Jackson it was still in the questionable (and supposedly after the fact a LIE). With Polanski, there was no denial on ANY COUNTS.

He led a pretty charmed life and continued on with both his notoriety and movie making career.

The message should be clear in this case and in any other cases involving fucken pederasts. Just because he fled and time has passed doesn't detract from the fact he fucked a 13 year old child.

It was a completely different time with MUCH different penalties for that particular crime committed. Again, I'm not condoning what he did. It was fucked up. I get it. All I'm saying under that law for that time period he got fucked over by a judge who basically took the law into his own hands. The fact is he was a pussy judge who couldn't make up his mind because the media influenced him. So YES, he was treated differently due to the high profile case.

"It's okay to marry and fuck 13 year olds" to

"Fucking a 13 year old is the most disgusting thing you can do and should be locked up forever"

He did suffer from terrible things, but that does not excuse his crime. I mean, THIRTEEN! And she still suffers from all the attention. There would not be all this attention should the man simply have gone through the system and made appeals if the Judge did not follow the law, but he chose instead to run and make this an ongoing tragedy for all concerned. I don't blame the courts either for requiring him to be present to face the music instead of negotiating from the shadows of foreign soil.
