It was a message to America that if you follow the socialist ways of Europe than they will treat us with pretty shiny things. Obama winning it for "extraordinary efforts to strengthen international diplomacy and cooperation between peoples." strengthens it.

IMO this really cheapens the prize itself.

maybe they thought was what GW's administration stood for (you don't think the whole world knew that cheney was running things?) was so vile and cruel, and ran so ass backwards to involve the whole industrialized world into a war over nothing, that any U.S. rhetoric involving positivity and hope was worthy considering we are the lone super power that can actually afford wars(we actually cant, dont let GW and CHen Dog mislead you) and bring death and destruction to other people.

No it doesnt. I means the man is open to talking with countries we have neglected good relationships with.

It doesnt mean anything more than that.

Until that 'extraordinary effort' actually starts working (which will take years) its simply more rhetoric. IF those relations start paying dividends (which I think will) then we have a different story... which goes back to my point that I dont mind Obama winning the prize... but not a half year into an elect/presidency.

And Fees... You are implying that the award is nothing more than a pure political play. 'Hey, this guy isnt that guy so heres an award'.

im not saying its only bush, but bush's legacy and the direction u.s. foreign policy was heading, certainly helped obama make the statements that he made as politically and socially as powerful as they have been.

The bright side of this though is that it's pretty clear that other countries want us to do well, and they believe that Obama's the man who might be able to get us on that path. I'd rather have that attitude abroad than anyone thinking that we're letting some trigger happy hill billy daddy's boy running things.

he isn't just open to it... he has actually done it. and he did it before he officially took office which would've been before he was nominated for the prize.
