Glenn Beck was in the middle of pining for a 'simpler time' in America when he decided the best way to illustrate this idea was to show two advertisements from said 'simpler time.' One was a classic Coca-Cola ad, the other a Kodak ad.
These examples of Americana were so moving to Beck that he just couldn't help himself; he begin to tear up (not for the first time). His monologue, which was interrupted a few times by his tears, began with the wisdom that politicians can't take us back to that simpler time; they can only take us farther away.

People romantize the past as being simpler, because they weren't there.

I know... let's build Glenn Beck a time machine and send him back 100 years.
At first, he'll be happy. Then he'll read the news and hear the angry debates over universal healthcare and that crazy progressive Teddy Roosevelt and cry some more...

It's good he's written a few books (assuming there were no ghost writers), cause the first news radio broadcast wasn't until 1920.

Of course, as soon as he starts crying before an audience, they'll just get angry with him, tell him to grow a pair and then hang him from a tree.
