Well... without getting to indepth... I would advise people to spread wealth around with smaller regional banks that have high capital ratios. Like Frost for example.

To be honest... I dont have that much to begin with that is just laying around. Most is dispersed among managed accounts... and not necessarily in the US.

I just read somewhere that investing in property is still the fastest way to make your money grow. If I still had it open i'd link it.

So I'm guessing they're suggesting you refi, rent the property and use the saved up money to get another mortgage. But that's kinda what got us into this mess in the first place so maybe investing in growing economies is the way to go.

Home values do generally increase in value... but over long periods of time.

The massive inflation of the RE bubble moved the metric of that perception many many years forward. What used to be a welcome bonus at the end of a loan term (or beyond) had turned into an expectation within years.

The problem was exacerbated by owners gaining virtual ATM access to their 'paper value' via home equity loans.

Personally I dont think (even in the relatively stable Dallas market) that we are close to finding a bottom in housing.
