For the R's/conservatives

If labor wage laws unfairly distort the cost of labor, penalize employers, and restrict competition, while at the same time, illegals provide a way around the unfair big government interference, what's the problem?

is it because they're mexicans? stealing the national identity? just doesn't make sense when everyone is rallying "hands off my business"

The only problem I really have with illegal immigration is the principal of the thing. We have laws for a reason and I don't advocate breaking them and especially don't like the idea of basically rewarding them for doing so (such as flat out amnesty). I do support changing the laws in some fashion that would allow them to work within the US legally. Don't ask me for details, I haven't studied this issue thoroughly enough to come up with a viable solution.

It does also highlight how bad our border security really is. If millions of Mexicans can get through as well as the sheer volume of drugs, what's to stop another group of terrorists from bringing a bomb through and quickly executing another attack. While this may be an unlikely method, I have always felt it's something that should probably be looked into.


As far as the "dey took er jerbs", I stopped caring about that part. If ~12 million people can jump the border, find work, figure out a way to support themselves, AND send money home to their families, then the people crying about not being able to find a job because of Mexicans need to try a different approach. I can't even begin to count the number of people I have known that would spend all day sitting on the couch, smoking pot, and bitching about how they can't find a job because of Mexicans/Bush (years before the recession at that). I never saw them actually get up, dress halfway decent, and go look for a job. They would just sit on their ass, smoke pot, and make a couple of phone calls "Dude are you hiring?"

I'm sure there's some deeper economic explanation behind it, but bet in general it is just maintaining the status-quo. The Mexicans are here illegally, which is breaking laws, so we send them back.

As for cheap labor, that's outsourced to countries like India, Vietnam and the Philippines.

It's not that hard to find work. Some people just think that they are entitled to a $50k/yr job and won't take a $12/hr job in transition.

Yeah I've known quite a few people like that and they're usually the ones who bitch the most and expect their friends to support them.

I've lost a lot of jobs due to cut backs and corporate acquisitions and mergers and had to take some real chitty jobs just to get by.

If you're serious about keeping up with your bills then you do what you gotta do.

If they struggle with finding themselves a job you almost can't get them a job either. The two times I've hired one of these guys I've been sorely disappointed. One walked away from the job because it interfered with his DJ career and the other lost it cause he was being careless while violating corporate policy.

Way to keep yourself down.

I assume you mean 'beside' the fact that it is modern day slavery backed by liberals and progressives in the United States under the guise of 'equality'??

P.S. It has nothing to do with Mexicans, Canadians, Pakis, Indians, Chinese, Japanese, etc. etc. It has to do with HUMANS being treated fairly! It has to do with following our laws, enforcing our laws, and (if needed) changing our laws the way the Constitution is setup to be changed (vs. subverting the system because liberals and progressives can't get their way with the American people).

Illegal immigration is just that, illegal. Plus, the cost of illegals on public services w/o being able to collect taxes from them, and sales tax does not count and is not what I am talking about.

Nope, the Department of Homeland Security has already stated at the beginning of the administration that it is not a crime to come across illegally.

I think you're trying to suggest that one must be racist to make the economic argument that illegal labor influences the value of legal labor. That's silly. The ethnicity of the illegal laborer isn't what deflates the value of legal labor, it is their presence in the market. Supply and demand are in essence ammoral principles.

They do pay excise (consumption taxes) and some even pay property, income and payroll taxes.
