Soda Tax

I love this idea. Not just because I'm a "communist" either. I love it because soda and fast food has gotten off freely for years while smokers and drinkers are penalized with crazy taxes...particular smokers (which i am one).

Stick it to the fatties! I also think all those frozen meals should be banned from food stamps. (I always see them on the first of the month in line with carts upon carts of junk food, soda, frozen food, etc at the local wal-mart)

Re: Soda Tax

Why do we want to have more taxes?

Also, what if you buy diet or pure sugar cane soda w/o caffeine? Tax or not?

Re: Soda Tax

I'm all for it too. I may be a fatty, but I don't fuck around with soda.

I think there will be a problem with the precedent it sets though. Is Diet Coke ok? Where do you draw the line? Who decides what is too many calories?

Re: Soda Tax

Also, I am not sure I would consider Lean Cuisine a 'fatty' type food. It actually is really only high in sodium and doesn't have alot of junk other frozen foods have.

Re: Soda Tax

We should also add a tax on people who sit on the couch for too long and people who surf the Internet for more than 1 hour a day. Cause we all know you're supposed to exercise and not troll DDM.

The weird thing is I thought Obama wanted to raise taxes only on people making more than $250k? Or am I mistaken?

As much as I hate the thought of being taxed for rootbeer, I could accept it as a vice tax. It's not really good for you and is just as addicting.

Yea, All those packaged food products have high sodium as a results of additives to cover up the machine taste the food picks up from the factory.

Is this tax also going to tax the companies that make the stuff or just their consumers?

You could tax the companies that make the stuff but it would still get passed down to the consumer.

I've no doubt they would be, just wondering if these corps are getting taxed as well.
