![]() | Consumer Credit declines for 8th straight month
Blowing past the -9.9B estimate to come in at -14.8B. The tapped consumer is doing the right thing... They are paying down (or walking away from) debt. So as the consumer continues to tranche itself in the category which is oddly 'responsible', they in turn give a collective middle finger to the government re-inflation attempts. What happens when the GDP engine switches from consumer to government? Open up your econ history books. The 'Japan' chapters await you.

Since you know what is going to happen with the economy I'll bet you are going to make so much money going all in on short positions.

My job is more about wealth protection and risk aversion rather than all in stock plays. I am a technical chartist. I dont write loans. I dont push products. I do have scaled in positions for a downturn but thats in personal accounts that frankly anyone has the same type of data accessible to trade from. And for Tricky... If you really think I am about greed then you havent been paying attention to what I post.

Of course shorts have been killed since March, but what you have been saying is it is eventually going to get much worse and we are only up because of market manipulation. I was just curious if you are backing up your beliefs of Armageddon with your personal investments.

I actually think the turn happened 2 weeks ago and I have scaled in accordingly. I dont know how much Armageddon we will actually see because if the markets do tip back towards the March lows we will likely see some massive changes to the system that will severely crimp the ability to be anything but long.

Unchecked capitalism doesn't exist. Nor do many, sane people, advocate for it. You're tearing down a straw man. The market is regulated and please recall my comment from last night about the market and laws of supply and demand... they are ammoral and need to be understood as such. People will respond to those trends in a way that (they perceive) most benefits themselves. Others are free to do the same. That's called liberty. Restricting personal choice would be the opposite of that.

You conveniently leave out Barney Frank as a central player in defeating GOP attempts to regulate some of the very issues that complicated out current crisis. I point him out not as a cause but as an example. There's plenty of blame and it isn't just broadly based across party lines but deeply into policy history... also across party lines. Centrally planned ecomomies of the states I listed were in worse shape before the current crisis and the quality of life of the average citizen there is still worse now and will be after. As to the very last line of my previous comments... I pointed out another continuum. Neither end should dominate. Liberty cannot be absolute nor should curtailment of same be accepted. It is no value judgement or even advocacy to note the continuum and I'd be shocked if you'd deny the fact reality the the far ends lead to trouble. The balance points... again, as above, subject to honest debate.
