Dems' healthcare bill passes in the House

Just watched the vote live. Talk about tense. Wow! It was down to ONE vote.

Sounds like a solid bill huh?

One vote and these vital provisions won't take effect for another two years?

So much for transparency.

So much for Nancy Pelosi's pledge to post the bill on-line for 72 hours before a vote.

Sounds like the Dems were quite aware of a shrinking window of opportunity and were so concerned about it flopping that they wanted to get re-elected before anyone gets to see it in action... and wanted to vote on it before anyone saw it.... that's getting to be SOP for this Congress.

ACTUALLY, the bill was posted well before the 72 hour mark. The proposed amendment had even been online since Tuesday. Funny how the party demanding the amendment in the first place is now trying to say "BUT, BUT, BUT!!! The amendment we demanded to be added that was posted online Tuesday technically wasn't inserted into the bill that has been online for almost a week, so "technically" the final bill wasn't online for 72 hours before the vote. You can't expect people to know that an amendment goes in the section of the bill being amended!"

Give me a break. lol

Well, the biggest hurdle in the Senate is the bickering over the public option. As it stands, Reid put it back in there. Since the House bill now includes it, whatever the Senate does will have to be reconciled with the House version. I think it's a done deal, honestly.

I honestly don't know why you WOULDN'T want to have insurance. Geez. But then again I've had insurance my entire adult life. Oh except for 9 months out of THIS year.

Except senators like Kent Conrad and Byron Dorgan have said they cannot vote for the option because it'll destroy the public hospitals of North Dakota. Those cats are not sui generis. There are plenty of rural states that will have their public healthcare destroyed by the bill. Done deal my ass. The Dems are having enough trouble within their own party. The Pro-life Dems are still not satisfied, etc etc etc etc... w/1990 pages of bill you've got plents of text to piss off everyone and their mother and her cat.

The issue isn't wanting vs not wanting

The issue is who gets to decide what is covered for whom, when and at what cost and the availability to effectively enage in dispute resolution.

Ever tried to sue the federal government?
