I dunno if anyone realizes this but...Bush's first ever successful business was the Texas Rangers. After talking the city of Arlington into buying the Rangers a new ballpark or else they would move the team, the citizens of Arlington approved a new ballpark that cost most than $250 million...if my memory serves right. He later sold the Rangers for a bit less than the Ballpark value and Team value...that...a bargain for potential buyers. His first ever successful business with the help of taxpayers and nothing coming out of his pocket for the ballpark which he named by the way...ugh...the Ballpark in Arlington. Not that running a country and running a business are the same things but makes you think a bit.

America isn't a democracy, it's an elected republic. Hell, we learned that in high school.

They wouldn't dare trust the proletariat general public of the USA to directly elect officials and pass laws. They provide us with the "illusion of control".. that illusion lasts until we disagree with the "elected republic", then they squash our opinion.

Hell, look at Washington DC. The public passed a medical marijuana law (DC Initiative 59) with overwhelming support (69%), and what did Congress do?:

a. they passed a "new law" 13 days before election day that prohibited the city government from spending any money to collect and count the votes on the marijuana law

b. they overturned the law within 30 days per it's "authority to review DC laws".

wow, we hold an election and they remove our ability to count our own votes, then overturn the results of that DEMOCRATICALLY HELD ELECTION

gotta love democracy

this "texas rangers" deal is what made bush's career.. it's what gave him his initial wealth.

a few things to note:

1. his investment in the rangers was very insubstantial compared to the other investors. it was under 1 million dollars.

2. the only reason he was given the opportunity to invest was because he was bush senior's son, and they realized it would be good press and political ammo. normally sports teams don't like large numbers of fractional owners.. in this case they made an exception because of who he was

3. all public "texas rangers" events always had bush in the limelight.. why? because he was the president's son. he wasn't even a substantial holder in the team

so why is bush rich? because his daddy was the president. it allowed him to inch his way into a nice little opportunity.

he isn't some shrewd businessman, he's a kid that got a break because he had an important daddy

hey i cared whether or not he was elected.
i didn't want Bush to win.
just because i didn't vote, doesn't mean
that i didn't care.
besides with the whole Florida thing..
i don't think it would have mattered..
the person i wanted to win, wouldn't
have won anyways.

but i was opinionated before and
i'm still that way now. whether or
not i'm a voter, doesn't change that.
and i think that goes for everyone else
too.. not just me.

It's just when sooo many ppl bitch like this it reminds me of watching sports with my friends. Someone fumbles the ball and the yell that the player sucks..but he's obviously better at the game then my friend cause he's geting paid to do it.

It's easy to sit on the side and bitch about what you see wrong, it's harder to actually get off you ass and try and fix it.

This whole forum is full of Bush hating threads, kinda makes me laugh.....but ya know what...IF YOU DIDN'T VOTE, THEN YOU HAVE NO RIGHT TO BITCH! I vote so I'm allowed, but all the ppl that come in here and complain, that didn't vote, then they need to shove it.
WELL I VOTED SO I CAN BITCH ALL I WANT!

i hate to say this, but it's not like a vote against bush in THE STATE OF TEXAS is going to do much of anything anyway

he's worshipped like a god in this state

(not that this means one shouldn't vote, but it makes me understand why alot of people think it's such a futile action)

wasn't voter turnout for the last election ridiculously low? something like 30%? i guess that means 14% of the nation voted for bush. heh

Actually for an American presidential election it was quite high, but relative to other industrialized nations, it was still an embarassment.

Actually, I would like to correct you on that. He was not elected really, but declared the winner by the Supreme Court. There is a difference. The final Florida count and therefore the Electoral votes were disqualified.

If all the ppl I hear bitching about Bush had actually gotten off their ass on election day, we may not have elected him.

Agreed with Mark, tim. We learned in 00' that the voting system doesnt work.

Whos bright fucking idea was it to use the electoral college instead of one man-one vote anyways. Im sure the intention was there but after 00 I pretty much lost faith in that system.

I have to agree with that. I understand the good intention of the whole electoral college system, but it obviously does not properly represent what this country wants.
