Society, your morals, your standards

As a little break from the war talk, I thought this would be an interesting topic to see the eclectic group that makes the usual A&P group.
Society has certain "morals" and "standards" that are expected of almost everyone, as each and everyone of you know there are many sub and counter cultures going on.
I'm originally from the north and had an incredible culture shock upon moving here, coming from a rather liberal town (Montreal Ca) to a bible belt state was almost a slap in the face.
Texas is a conservative state with some incredible inconsistencies around. Where all do you fit in this scheme?

I fit in the marginalized left. We (along with many wannabe liberals) are made blame for everything that goes wrong around here.

Terrorists blew up the WTC?

"It's because those damn liberals let them in. If we had built a wall along the Mexico border, we wouldn't have this problem."

Unemployment is increasing?

"It's those damn liberals that keep letting the illegal immigrants in who are taking all the jobs! They keep passing laws to keep hard working, christian republicans from having jobs."

Education in Texas is bad.

"It's those damn liberals trying to spend all those taxes that they steal from us on those lazy minorities and illegal immigrants that there isn't enough money to spend on the education."

The Economy is bad.

"Those liberals screwed up the economy! Clinton and those lying liberals ruined the economy and raised taxes!"

CNN has pointed out inconsistencies in Bush's War on Iraq

"That's because the media is the tool of the liberals! They lie about everything us decent conservatives do to make this a great nation. It's all propaganda."

You just learn to deal with it.

No offence to any overtly religious folks but most of the ten commandments seem common sense by now don't they?
I was raised Roman Catholic and while for the most part I don't practice it that much I still hold some of it's core values..SOME!!!
An intereting thing to note, in China a religionless country several "common sense" dictates were enacted which truly resemble the commandements.
An interesting thing to note, just from my personal experience, it seems that the more technologically advanced a country is the more religion starts to take a back seat.
What socitety deems deviant behavior its often embrassed by a group of individuals that share the same morals and standards,
so who is truly to say what is moral or immoral, aside some of the more basic "common sense" ideas IE "Thou shalt not kill"

It seems as though a number of us here either are or were Catholic.

thats pretty much what I was going to say.

How I fit in?
I am not at all religious. I think it is so unimportant, I don't even affiliate myself with anything (that doesn't mean I don't know plenty about them though). I can not wait to leave the bible belt and move somewhere where every city council decision is based on what is good morally and ethically to the few involved in the process, to a place where they make decisions based on how well it will help their economy.<~~that is a whole nother topic though

In other words, I don't fit in b/c I am not Southern Baptist/ignorant or Catholic

I was bore and raised in a baptist church, I still attend church everyweek

yes I do a far share of relion bashing, even my own. I am religious, I believe in GOD, I i think that if I wasn't raised in the church like I was, I'd probably would have ended up as some punk.

those who actually know me off the boards will understand that last statment those who don't will say that I am a punk or some veriation of that

No variation tim, you are a punk

To further add to this, most of the people on this board deviate in one way or another from what society would consider the norm, yet for us this is the norm. If you have lived in another state/country/etc..how would you describe your experience here
when compared to your previous one?
