![]() | cocacola machines in hospitals
i was at a hospital earlier this week and i noticed cocacola machines...everywhere. hospital...cocacola....hospital....cocacola. what the fuck? even in a fucking hospital, you're well on your way to adult onset diabetes. and now that i think about it... cocacola and other softdrink makers frequently buy off public schools. being that caffein is addictive, does this strike anyone else as slightly sinister?

i am the anti-flab. i'm more worried about the droves of ignorant kids getting addicted to sugary caffeinated drinks, and the long term effects of this on the healthcare system and in turn my wallet.

It's not the CocaCola though, it's society as a whole. Did we have these types of problems in the 50's and 60's? CocaCola was around then. It's about accesability and parent's not educating their children that these things are bad for you. Values have definetely changed, everything in pre-packaged, preserved, homogonized etc.... it's all for convenience.

We had coke machines in high school, but I was never dumb enough to drink more than 1 a day.

Most hospitals currently have McDonald's in them as well. Anyone think this is a bad idea?? http://www.foodrevolution.org/askjohn/31.htm As far as soft drinks in schools, here's an interesting article related to that: http://www.foodrevolution.org/askjohn/43.htm |

I actually did a paper during the few classes of college I attended about the Health Insurance industry as well. I don't remember all the exact numbers now, but basically it's a standard procedure to do extra surgeries on terminally ill patients (like removing the appendix of a terminal cancer patient) IF that patient has health insurance. People without insurance are something like 10 times more likely to die in hospital emergency rooms. The Health Insurance industry is one of the biggest in the states. So yeah.. I was all about it when Clinton wanted to socialize Health Care, but unfortunately that never ended up happening. |

How about if fat, lazy Americans get off their asses and exercise? Just a thought... if we're all so sick of healthcare costs, why not be proactive about it with exercise and diet? What percentage of the current healthcare expenditures would be affected, and how would that change the economics?
