Someone who beleives that this war is about oil is sadly mistaken. If that were the case then why are there 30 other nations supporting us? Why does the majority say we need to take out Saddam? If this war is for oil, then Bush does not care for the lives of 250,000 US soldiers. If anyone can give me supporting facts that Bush is that evil, please inform me. I do not want conspiracies, I want to know events that have taken place in the past that has made Bush an evil person. |

I don't think that the war is just about oil. I do think that is many of the reasons behind the war. I think it also has to do with insuring a Bush victory in 2004, as any literature on presidential political capital will tell you, because wartime presidents carry a generally strong majority in elections. I think it also has to do with maintaining this "war on terrorism" and using it as a means to continue our hegemonic control over much of the world. It's a good excuse, people are afraid, the government has established an enemy that can essentially become any nation that opposes us, simply by insisting that they harbor terrorists. It's no conspiracy theory, it's very well documented as used during the Reagan and Bush I administrations. I'm sure most people here are too young to remember, but Washington used to talk about evil communist Nicaraguans storming the Mexico-Texas border and invading the US. It sounds ridiculous now, but people were made truly afraid of this scenario. The threat of communism was used to jusitfy an invasion of a tiny island that produces collectable stamps and nutmeg, which was Grenada. Not only does it allow the administration to justify aggression towards other nations, but it allows the government to slip under the public radar all sorts of legislation that would piss people off any other time, such as the Patriot Act 2 and a ridiculous increase in defense spending. This administration is seriously committed to a hegemonic takeover of the world, and I'll find the evidence later today when I have some more time. In addition, I think there are alot of economic reasons behind this war. One is a cover up of how bad the economy is doing. Every politician knows that the best way to hide a problem is to made people look at some other problem. War is the best of these covers. I'm not talking conspiracy, but pretty basic political science here. In addition, it allows Bush to funnel taxdollars into the hands of the corporations that made his election possible. There are essentially four areas of the market that will benefit from this war on your tax dollars: 1. Oil companies. Whether you think the war is about oil or not is irrelevant at the moment. Even if the oil fields are not taken under strict and permenent control by Washington (despite Colin Powell's claim that they will be immediately after the war is over) it's not beyond understanding that US oil companies will be first in line to receive oil contracts in Iraq. The US appointed leader for Iraq has already stated openly that our oil companies have a "very good chance at Iraqi oil". 2. Megacorporations. After the war in Afghanistan, millions of tax dollars were contracted out to some of the largest corporations in the world to rebuild Afghanistan. This too is public knowledge, although it received little media attention. So too has a similar plan been established to spend millions of dollars initially to corporations "approved" by USAID, at the administration's request. There is no bidding process, no competition to get the best price, they have been preselected to receive these contracts. 3. Defense/Computer Corporations. This is pretty simple to understand as well. We are expending ammunition, missiles, and such, and these stocks must be replaced, especially if the war continues for a long period, or if there are further invasions to be made. Not only will contracts be assigned to replenish the military, but further contracts are in the works to provide bigger and better weaponry such as the bomb tested in Florida recently. In addition, with the nation focused on war, there will be little or no resistance to increases in the defense budget for next year. 4. Airlines. The large airlines are all part of a reserve air fleet, in which they are paid annually on retainer to provide airplanes to fly troops out of the US in the event of war. Yesterday word came out that if the planes are needed for this war, the government will be repaying the airlines for any planes used...repayment for a service we pay for annually. This is the bailout airlines have been waiting on.

No matter how nonpartisian an organization, website, or person claims to be, if they are talking about anything political...there is going to be some degree of partisianship. I don't understand why it is that many people will discount facts because it came out of the mouth of somebody who they politically disagree with. The sky is blue whether a Dem or a Rep tells you so.
