I would highly recommend people to read this article, there is alot of good info in this one. But there are no sources for the data, and no "proof" that DU is causing these health problems. This article certainly does raise questions, but again I want the evidence.

I appreciate you giving me these articles, I did find some of them interesting and actually learned a few things I didn't know about DU from them. However, there is still no evidence here that says this is what is giving Iraqis Cancer, or furthermore it does not have a link to Gulf War Syndrome. The argument that we use DU in our shells and harm the Iraqi people carries about as much weight as me saying that Saddam's use of Secret Underground Nuclear facilities is giving his people cancer. Or me making the statement that his careless disposal of Nuclear Material is causing cancer in the Iraqi People. Furthermore I could claim that the destruction of Chemical Plants and munitions dumps is causing these malidies. There is no evidence to support any of these arguments and that is why I am responding in the way I did ,for people to stop making "claims" that we are poisining the Iraqi's with DU when there is no scientific data that I have seen that directly points the finger at DU for the Iraqi poplulations health problems.

Yeah, admittedly the more I looked the more I found data was inconclusive. But, studies are being put forth in the medical field which should be able to better detail the effects of DU on people. At the same time, Washington seems to want to ignore the possibility that there could be any health risk because it would mean paying out Veteran's benefits, as one of those pieces I gave discussed. That's probably the saddest part of all.

This isn't too far removed from the issue almost 20 years ago concerning lead. There was government and medical studies performed which found that lead, primarily in paint, pipes, and gasoline, were causing lead poisoning in massive amounts across the US. I've studied lead poisoning a great deal, and the manner in which lead enters and affects the human body is very much the same way DU does...which is through consumption and inhailation. Despite the fact that lead and lead paint industry leaders were running their own tests and studies which complemented, rather than disagreed with, public evidence that lead was poisoning Americans; they were stating officially that lead is a harmless material. Likewise, Washington has known since before Desert Shield/Storm that DU shells may be harmful to our troops. It should be known that akthough Washington says the DU shells are harmless, there are very strict procedures and protective measures required for soldiers dealing directly with DU shells.

I think there is a pretty common sense argument to be made about the dangers of DU shells. It's fucking nuclear waste. I don't know about you, but I would rather not have pieces of nuclear waste getting blown up around me. It would seem to me that if our government really cared about our troops, they wouldn't even risk compounding the threat on their lives like that.

Moreover, while I don't doubt that Scorched Earth or chemical weapons may be responsible for some of the health effects found in our troops post-Gulf War, there is still the matter of "Balkan War Syndrome". Where Scorched Earth was not a policy of our enemy, nor are any chemical weapons known to have been used, doctors are finding the same medical conditions present in veterns of both the Gulf War and the bombing and invasion of Kosovo.
