This argument reminds me of 'Confederates in the Attic' by Tony Horwitz... the spin the Southerners put on certain battles and occurrences vs. what the Yankees said. My, what an interesting read it was...
After reading that book, I can't take much I learned about the Civil War in school seriously at all - it is my favorite historical subject, though, so I have done a considerable amount of reading about it since then. It is amazing to consider all the inaccuracies - there's truly no objective view, even though many have tried to write a truly objective annal of the war. It's hard to say if any war has been documented objectively...
That's the one thing I also remember that struck me the most about an American History class I took at UT - on the first day, the professor said, "History is what you make it"...
