it is a shame that so many people veiw are government as something horrible. it is also a shame that there are so many people that believe are government is out to get them. no other countries have the freedoms we do or the standard of living. i really believe that we can not make everyone happy. and the fact is that we govern ourselves. we elect are leades. we pass bills. are government is not evil. they do in fact make the best decisoins to benefit the american people. the people of the united states have to have some faith and stop being so paranoid. unfortunatly i will be attacked and called stupid. but there still is no proof. you will all post articales written by some reporter but it still will prove nothing but opinion and circumstantional evidece. nothing is yet proved but unfortunatly i am sure that i am one of the few that believe this way. democracy does work~! |

do you mean "are" or "our"? a_a and are you suggesting that our government has never taken part in anything morally suspect? for you to say that our government is not evil, is to suggest the opposite: that in fact our government is good. |

There are several other countries in this world that allow the same freedoms we get here in America. We aren't the only free nation in the world and I don't know where you got the idea that we were. (maybe from dubya) Now you may be right about our high standard of living but what's so nice about our standard of living? We have the most money and we spend the most money on bullshit we don't need. I could stand to live in a society that has a little lower standard of living. Then maybe there wouldn't be such a focus on what kind of clothes you wear or what car you drive or such a heavy focus and admiration for the rich and famous of our culture. You're also right that the government can't make everyone happy but when you go on to say we govern ourselves you're wrong. When we pass bills your wrong and when the government passes laws they don't always look out for the best interests of the people. They often look out for the best interests of the corporations that lobby the politicians to get laws pass to help out business in some way. Democracy definitely works but when there is such wealth and power in a government like ours that power becomes exploited. If you trust that any politician is gonna steer you the right way your a chump.

Is that going to happen? Hell no... The existence of magazines like People goes to show America's love affair with celebrities, success, and materialism. We love it, and can't get enough. We like to see success stories like Eminem's and the like, where people went from nothing to American icons of money and fame. It's part of our culture. The riders on bills are what kill me... I mean, for instance, the Amber bill that is meant to foster the rollout of the Amber Alert plan to the rest of the United States. Did anyone else see all the other crap they tried to tack on to that thing? It's no wonder it hasn't gotten anywhere. PAC's and corporate interests will always have the politician's ears to some extent - money does talk... I would also suggest that many politicians DO listen to public opinion - hell, Clinton always looked at polls before announcing support for ANYTHING. In fact, it often caused him to waffle on issues, being the puppet of American popular opinion. Warlord said that this country could, in fact, be a whole lot greater than it is... I think that's right on the money. It could be, and there isn't one solution, either.
