![]() | A simple question
It's obvious that most people that post on this particular area are against the war, however how many of you oppose the idea of bringing down Saddam from ruling in Iraq?

read about it here if you really want to * The number of businesses failing can be directly tied to the .com explosion in the last several years. So many businesses with no products to sell, built on flimsy financial models - not surprising. Of course we do have several major companies in bankruptcy now from mismanagement, piracy, raiding, and unprofessional conduct. Our market weeds out anomalies rather well... The markets peaked in 2000 when Klinton was in office, and GWB was handed a crappy economy... * The markets have all regained what they had initially lost this year (about 8%). Most analysts would suggest that the markets are somewhat correcting for over-valuation (read as ridiculous PE ratios for one) that occurred during someone else's administration. * Our economy is cyclical... If you want to look at it in terms of trade deficits as compared to the GDP, this recession follows the normal pattern or a growing trade deficit followed by a recession. There's NOTHING you can do to completely offset that... we just got used to high times and forgot that there would be a natural downturn... 9/11 and Enron didn't help, but they were also NOT the CAUSE of the recession. here's some light reading on that topic * The deficit increase depends on who you listen to and what model you use to analyze the impact. If you use the dynamic model, which is theoretically more accurate, the claimed 'deficits' under the Bush plan would be a fraction of what Lieberman and his cohorts would lead you to believe... Besides, not all deficits are bad... In fact, the Treasury Department examined trends between 1965 and 1983 and concluded that “high deficits have virtually no relationship with high interest rates in this time period.” A series of university and government studies of other nations and time periods yielded the same result. The truth is, today’s deficits are caused by a faltering economy, not tax cuts. When the Bush administration took office, the Congressional Budget Office predicted the economy would grow 2.4 percent in 2001 and 3.4 percent in 2002. Instead it sank into recession, costing the Treasury an estimated $145 billion of tax revenues in 2001 and $280 billion more in 2002. And yet, who's getting the blame for the crappy state of affairs left to him by former Prez Klinton? I can go on and on and on here if you want me to... * Wow, is that last point really underwhelming... I believe he has proposed things for the economy, education, SS, tax relief, welfare reform, national defense, homeland security, health care, and the environment... Likewise, I believe he's taken action in many of these same areas... | |
