![]() | Wave goodbye to our scene.....
Mr. George Dubya is supposed to sign the Amber Alert bill today. A provision has been added about the Rave Act. This means that promoters and club owners will begin being held responsible at any party thrown by them or in their venue, where they SHOULD know that drugs are being used. Which means, that due to fines and possibly even jail sentences, reasonably, promoters and club owners alike will begin dying out for the sake of saving themselves. I AM IRATE, I AM PISSED OFF, THE GOVERNMENT HAS GONE TOO FAR HIDING THIS PROVISION IN AN ACT ABOUT CHILDREN WHO WERE ABDUCTED. CANDY RAVERS ARE NOT ABDUCTING OUR CHILDREN. End Rant. |

What upsets me more, is that I KNOW there are TONS of people out there, especially on this board who are part of the scene and did nothing to stop this. Maybe we couldn't do anything to stop it, but how many people at least wrote to Biden? I have noticed that serious posts (such as about this ACT) get majorly ignored on Draves. Unfortunately, ALOT of people have nothing to complain about because they didn't even try to stop if from happening. *SIGH* I guess they'll start caring when they are sitting at home on weekends staring at the ceiling, wishing they could go somewhere to hang out with friends and listen to some awesome tunes. |

| Already lost my patience...
Democrat, Republican... whatever... The American Government is the most close minded gruop of 35+ people this world has ever seen in power over a superpower. This doesn't surprise me. That's why I'm moving to Canada. Toronto's scene is AWESOME... and Vancouver's scene is coming up. when I get the chance, i'm moving away from this 2 party Tyranny we reside in... |

As far as I'm concerned, this bill sucks, but it will have little effect on our "scene." There are no more raves now anyway and I think a majority of the people we associate with in public have grown way out of the "love and ecstasy" phase. There are plenty of weeklies to keep everyone busy and I don't think this will stop them. Most people I encounter at parties are not there to do drugs (perhaps to binge drink) and the few who are generally try to be very respectful and a incognito about it. This also goes to show that neither your precious Democrats nor your beloved Republicans give a rats ass about your civil liberties. They're all the same, they just sit at different lunch tables in the congressional dining halls. |

this is so crazy... i mean its like they could apply this to any establishment:: bars, skating rinks, amusement parks drugs are illegal. ppl shouldn't do drugs ANYWHERE!! how can we hold the general public accountable for that? i don't understand how its enforceable. its like employers give drug tests now. but will establishments have to begin dna drug tests (hair) instead of checking ids at the door now?? how do u prevent ppl from secretly disobeying laws in your establishment? lets think of all the other non drug related laws that are disobeyed in establishments everday... indecent exposure, sodomy, ppl under 42" riding the big kids rides.. aargh this is all too aggravating.

And it pertains to anyone involved in throwing the party or promoting the gathering, who SHOULD reasonably know that there is drug use going on. They don't even have to KNOW about it and can get fines and sentences for people doing drugs or being on drugs at these gatherings. Unfortunately, the music industry as a whole is in jeopardy at this point. I don't mean to over-exaggerate as I'm sure some of you think I am doing. But this really is serious. They can't stop club owners from opening their doors to people, but they can make their lives such a living hell that it isn't worth it for them anymore, until eventually, there are no clubs left to save.

| and another thing!
Operation Iraqi Freedom: I like to call it operation Lower Gas Prices is a prime example of the links this country will go to to meet an ends... WAR. With this new law, the country has effectively drawn a line in the sand that creates a new weapon in their modern day civil war they call the drug war. AHH! New idea: Push the scene back were it belongs, UNDERGROUND!!! *underground party ideas brewing!!!* |

Here are my thoughts. The rave act makes the promotors/venue owners responsible for having any event knowingly intended for the use of drugs. They said the bill will not target innocent busness people trying to have an event, only those who encourage the use of drugs. The problem with this is that it doesn't say how they plan to distinguish between between the two. The bill is so vague that hopefully, people will be able to get out of it by showing that they took measures to prevent drug use.

By the way, as of last night, this had only passed the House and not the Senate, so it is not a done deal. Many senators expressed that they would not vote for the bill because of the many strange line items it contained, including this one. If it is not too late, I would recommend spending some time contacting your senators today.

I've written letters, I've written and distributed petitions, I helped with and spoke at the protest during last Congressional session. Currently, I'm still deciding whether a rally would be worthwhile in Austin around May 31 (in line with a national day of protest in other cities). The one thing keeping me from really jumping into it with both feet is the issue of whether there is anything left to save (besides our rights). Rave scene? Where? I'd love to have the ability for us to rebound in the future, but it seems to me like we've been long dead without a terrible amount of assistance from the gov't. Just my personal take on it, I suppose. I do believe that its constitutionality will be challenged sometime after the first case is brought up under it, though, so I'm not terribly worried. Nevertheless, if we're going to continue fighting this, we shouldn't stop and wait for the SC to champion the rights us citizens are typically too lazy to. |
