| President will sign "RAVE" Act into law -Today-
As most people already know, both houses of Congress passed the "Illicit Drug Anti-Proliferation Act". This legislation was slipped into the AMBER Alert Bill (a new law that creates a nationwide network for tracking down abducted children) by Senator Biden. President Bush will be signing the AMBER Alert Bill (and thus the "RAVE" act) into law today. Once he does this, law enforcement agencies across the country will have the legal right to shut down music venues, imprison venue owners and event promoters. This law inacts a $250,000 fine for those that are found to be in violation. The wording of the bill text makes it so that anyone throwing a music event is liable, as one can reasonably expect that at least one person will be under the influence of a substance at an event, regardless of the security measures taken. I saw something on CNN this morning about the Amber Alert bill, and all the great things it's doing to protect America's children. They didn't mention the legislation that was appended to this bill, of course. |

And the second some large promoter is arrested/fined, there will likely be a court case which will result in this law's death. Hopefully. In the mean time, maybe some promoters will do a little more to get away from the drugs. Maybe a few more people will decide that they hate the rave scene and let the hardcores stick to it. |

Wow, even Fox News is on the ball with this one. I don't think these maggots will be able to get away with this. Can you even imagine the economic implications if concert promoters and other event coordinators start cancelling large events for fear of this ridiculous legislation? http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,85574,00.html Last edited by Ryan; 04-30-03 at 02:56 PM. |

What is the penalty for smoking dope over there? Anyone wanna try and sneak into the white house and light up? Deal is, you have to then jump up and down screaming "I WANT TO GET HIGH!!" Or do it at the capitol building. (assuming it applies to *any* venue and not just one that is for entertainment.)

what is wrong with these people? i guess the only way they can get what they want is to be cowards. i can't understand why this is top priority for them. shouldn't they be more concerned about catching terrorists or something? or rapists and murderers? no.. we need to stop these kids from dancing! and supposedly this is about drug use and drug related deaths at parties, but there are other "legit" establishments in which people bring drugs.. so i guess we need to shut all of them down too? feh. |

this is nuts! Saddam Hussien was overthrown for many reasons, but one that is stressed alot is that he wouldn't let those Iraqi people practice their religion and slice their heads open. ok... now here's our government who won't let us practice our (dance) culture, and are busting their ballz to shut us down. it doesn't make any sense. maybe i'm way off here but i don't think i am. if anyone knows where there will be any protests, email me at m_sully@yahoo.com. as long as there is still music, we will be here!!! PLUR to all my friends. i'll see you there, manda |

You're more likely to kill yourself or someone else driving drunk then you are doing or selling ecstacy, but there isn't a 250,000 dollar fine for a DWI. Not to mention that too much alcohol can kill you just as easy as too much x(or any other hard drug for that matter). *sigh* just another excersize in futility in the attempt at winning the unwinnable drug war. If anybody thinks this will actually curb drug/ecstacy use, they're dilusional. | |
