| DFW talk radio host outspoken against the Drug War has been fired
Please take a few minutes to write to 105.3 FM about the following. ----------------------------------------------- PLEASE FORWARD Folks, we have so few allies in the mass media that when one goes down, I feel at least the obligation to give our community a "heads up" and see if we can put some hurt on a station that canned a good friend of marijuana reform. In Dallas, TX what used to be KYNG105.3 "the talk that rocks" has recently undergone a management and call letter change to KLLI. Marijuana reform has an unabashed friend in Ken Goldberg, host of a show called "Law and Disorder". If he is not talking about guns, he is talking about marijuana reform. Many of NORML's folks have been guests on the show. Last week, Ken was unceremoniously fired by the new management. Rumor has it from good sources that their "premier goofball" Russ Martin, the afternoon adolescent, had something to do with Ken's situation. Their dismissive comments include "no one listened to Ken". Ken had the best show audience wise in his crappy time slots around the market, so this decision was purely political. They asked him more than once to cool his legalization talk, but Ken stood his ground. He had a weekend show he paid for, but then they hired him so they could fire him; you know the drill. I'm requesting all within reading distance to give the Dallas market a good piece of their minds. A short email expressing displeasure with management, or a letter of support to Ken would be greatly appreciated by me. You also might want to call in some of the shows and express your complaints. Russ will let you on, then goof on you incessantly, as is his juvenile style of 'entertainment'. 105.3 station email: clo@kyng.com the radio station can be called at Request Line: 214.787.1053 Offices: 214.630.3011 Fax: 214.905.5070 Many thanks for any stink you can raise. Regardless of his stance on marijuana, Ken's show was easily my favorite talk radio show. He always did a good job of backing up his arguments with facts, and was willing to give opposing viewpoints air time. It really sucks if his show is gone.

I like how he used to go off sometimes. Last show I heard he was going ape shit about that young girl who was maced and hancuffed by a police officer. Russ Martin is the same show every fucken day. Same ole jokes, and some of them, with their long pauses, seem to be inside ones at that. He was talking about syndication the other day. I dont care who you are if your voice is as hick as Russ's you aren't going to do well in syndication. Thats just the way it is. peace |

---Totally unfair about Ken's situation. I loved his show and his attitude towards law, politics, & life in general. He always seemed like a "stand-up guy"...someone who's got your back. Sucks! ---I'll certainly voice my opposition to his dismissal to KLLI. However, I don't think it will do much to reverse his termination. When Bob McNeil fires someone, it's usually a done deal. Unfortunately, the 7-11pm time-slot has been a tough one to fill (in the eyes of the station, anyway). First, Midge got the boot...now Ken. Completely wacked! They say the target demographic is males, age 18-54 which "Law & Disorder" certainly nailed with ease. Gotta love those inside politics

I liked Ken's show too, but I don't think he was fired at all for anything that he said. Most of the shows on that station openly talk about marijuana, among other topics which are far more controversial. Ultimately I'm sure it came down to ratings. His show had good ratings when it was on the weekend, which is why it was moved to the weekdays, but it isn't really along the same vein as the rest of the station, so I don't think it carried the ratings the station needed out of that time slot. It really isn't the show to follow russ, who targets a very different group than Ken's show did, although I knew a lot of people I work with of various ages listened to Russ and kept the station on to listen to Ken when they turned it off when Lykis or Mich came on afterwards. I heard he was complaining about having problems with his voice doing the show everyday, so I think that might have played some part in his firing.

I loved Goldberg's show. Loved it. But I really doubt that he was let go over his views concerning the marijuana legislature in this country. I'm in full agreement with Adam's stance on this. Jesus is there anything you guys can't take and relate to pot in one way or another? ![]() Sad to see him go though. Tom Lycis is still funney as fuck. |

Ken's show was probably the best radio show on the air. He always has great topics and always presented sound arguments to back up his thoughts. He was also always tell the audience the truth, told things like they are. I'm definitely writing the station cuz radio needs more guys like Goldberg on the air.

I listen to Russ everyday. He's a total rube about some stuff, but I think it's funny in it's own little way. He's definitely gotten me LOLY'ing before. But then again I just take it at face value and try not to forget that he's just a guy getting paid to act like a douchebag in the afternoons on the radio. |

| I've never cared for Russ Martin.
All the years I've lived here, I've always thought he was a no-talent dumbass. Just don't like his show. Back in the day, when Russ was trying to find his way...he would blantantly rip off Howard Stern and come off just looking like a dipshit. On my list of: Things Wrong with Dallas under "RADIO" ...you would see RUSS MARTIN BLOWS!!! |

It wouldn't surprise me if his termination didn't have a lot to do with his talk about legalization. Puggs and Kelly alking about getting stoned or Tom Lankus making the bong rip sound is way different than taking an active and public role in legalizing marijuana. Legalization proponents, especially those who have hundreds, if not thousands of listeners, have the ability to influence the thinking and opinions of a much larger audience.
