you live in the south. i'm suprised that you are surprised about this kind of behaviour. you would be taken aback then by how many people harbor feelings such as those men who surrounded you. they employ a subtle more covert form of racism. they will talk behind your back, they will say things about you in their minds that they would never say out loud because that kind of behaviour is not as commonplace as it used to be. then there are those who are willing to be overt with their feelings of hatred. god help the poor soul who happens to encounter one of these individuals who ALSO happens to be in a position of power. you are basically at their mercy. the south is a dangerous place to be in my friend. things have gotten better, sure. but one would be simply naive to underestimate HOW much better it has gotten and assume that they are still free to say and do certain things. it is sad that behaviour of this kind still exists especially in this day and age especially in the south. some things never change.

I've lived a lot of places around the US, and I have NEVER heard more racial slurs, seen more racism, or been more appauled by ignorant "educated" people in my life than when I lived in the North. (PA, right next to NY) I have NEVER seen/heard the kind of things I saw/heard while living up North around "educated, Enlightened" folk....Even in the Midwest, (Kansas City) I thought I was going to DIE, I've walked out on more than one conversation midsentence of some yahoos in both places... I'm sorry that happened to you madsklz, Manny and I have not really run into any thing like that, yet. |

That's funny, cuz' you're about as white as they come...Ha ha ha. I used to get crazy looks when I dated outside my race too. People aren't as accepting of interracial relationships here, so expect to get some looks. I have never heard of a story that extreme though. I am truly sorry for Madskills and anyone else "blacklisted" for being in an interracial relationship by all the ignoramus of Dallas. I personally don't see anything wrong with it. Love sees no color, so why should we?

That is terrible and unfortunately you are probably pretty damn right on assuming that it was your nationality that caused these cops to harass you. I am also not from Dallas and I have really only been here about 3 years. Being mixed it is very seldom that I will go out to a club and have someone NOT ask me what nationality I am. I guess I could try and not be so offended but the truth of the situation is what nationality you are should NEVER affect ones judgment of you as a person i.e. first impression. Don’t get me wrong I’m not at all ashamed of my heritage, I’ve had friends for years and have never cared what they background is. The ignorance in Dallas is sad and very disappointing.

i think dallas is pretty tame. i grew up in victoria (ya know, where they found the truckload of immigrants a couple of weeks ago). it's pretty bad down there. i came to live in dallas and was like "wow! what a liberal place!" it can always be worse, kids.

what? dallas is NOT tame... wait.. i'm not even going to keep going.. i forgot that this response is coming from the same girl who told me that it is my fault for being harassed by men in Deep Ellum because of what i was wearing. [especially seeing as how you didn't know WHAT i was wearing, otherwise you would know that i wasn't dressed provocatively] you've probably never been harassed in your life for anything. dallas? tame? please.

and i never said you were harassed soley for what you were wearing. i just think that if you're going to wear it, be prepared for a stronger reaction. i wear that stuff too sometimes, but i don't go running around screaming harassment. i've been harassed before. sadly, but what girl hasn't? i think it makes you a stronger person to just shrug it off to stupidity and go on with things than to whine about it. if it bothers you that much, than doesn't that kinda mean the harasser got the better of you? i just know when to pick my battles. sorry i have my own opinion. do you have some sort of deep seated hatred for me or something? you always manage to reply to my posts with some sort of derogatory remark. *washes hands of the subject* arguing on a message board is SO passe!
