Horse meat found in salami

Salami on sale in the UK could contain horse and donkey meat, the Food Standards Agency said today.

The agency announced an investigation to analyse what goes into
salami, chorizo and pastrami.

It follows a survey carried out by local authorities in Hull, Durham, Northumberland, West Yorkshire and North Yorkshire which found horse meat in three of the 24 samples of salami tested.

Rosemary Hignett, the FSA's head of food labelling, said: "There are concerns that UK consumers could unwittingly be eating horse and perhaps donkey meat when they buy a salami or similar product.

"Some people may prefer not to eat these products, even though food safety is not the issue and they are often traditional recipes."

I have no problem eating horse...The french eat horses and donkeys all the time its no big thing. If i were a vegan i would be a lot more concerned about the food irradiation. All this "Organic" fruit and vegies that you people eat that is being imported from France and Italy is Irradiated by the US Department of Agriculture to stop the spread of fuit flies and other insects that they normally spray with insectisides. They claim that the irradiation does not effect the food in any way, but some Organic food companys complain that Irradiation destroys vitamins and essential fatty acids, and breaks down proteins and carbohydrates. Not to mention the long term effects of eating irradiated food has never been assessed.

I don't eat imported organics. Enjoy your horsebuger.
