"In an announcement that shook the California political establishment, actor Arnold Schwarzenegger said Wednesday he intends to run for governor.

"I will pump up Sacramento," the former bodybuilder and "Terminator 3" star said on the "Tonight Show with Jay Leno."

"I decided that California is in a disastrous situation right now," he said.

The move caught many political observers by surprise because Schwarzenegger's advisers had signaled for days that he was leaning against a run."
