With all the talk about Iraq and North Korea having (or building, or planning to build, or posessing the technology to build) nuclear weapons, I was wondering something.

If the US is so pissed off about anybody else having nuclear weapons or WMD, have WE promised the world that we don't, won't, and can't have nuclear weapons? Or do we just want to be the only country who has them?

It takes time and money to get rid of the wmd. We are currently destroying chemical weapons at a base in Alabama, Russia recently bought Ukraines nukes, not sure why, but I would say the biggest threats now would be North Korea, Iran, India, Pakistan. Iran doesn't have the balls to nuke anyone, North Koreans probably wouldn't know how, then Pakistan and India just want to nuke each other.

because the use of nuclear weapons as the west and former soviet pact nations know nuclear war is a futile gesture.
despite our occasional bouts of insanity, we know that the use of nuclear weapons is merely as a deterance. we recognise the futility in thier use.
the nations that have recently aquired them arent the most stable and logical acting of peoples. thier dubious actions in the past lead many to believe that they would use them. actually use nuclear weapons.
this is not the most sane of ideas.

Russia is trying to stabilize the nuclear material in the former USSR since so many of the former states are very poor and the risk of selling the material, or "losing" the material is much greater. I don't know that I necessarily think Russia is very much better off though. If I remember correctly, Bush was backing this sales last year.
