Hey guys, I'm getting started as a small time dj playing house parties and such, and I know there may be some underage drinking going on at some of them. I'm 19, so my question is, if the cops show up on a noise complaint or somethng and decide to bust the party, could I possibly get into trouble even if I wasn't drinking? Do the cops have to prove that each kid had been drinking? Will they bust the kids who are obviously drunk, or blanket the whole party? Also, if I did get into some shit, would there be any way out of it by going to talk a judge or something?

I usually party up at clubs and stuff, so I guess I just haven't had to deal with these issues before, so forgive my ignorance.

The law, at least as far as I know it to be, states that any minor not in the presence of a guardian within 100ft of alcohol or alcohol consumption may be cited for MIP.

In reality though, the cops probably won't cite everyone there, though they may choose to if you're being an ass or are really unlucky.

As long as you're not in posession of alcohol, don't appear to be fucked up, and are polite to them they'll probably let you go. I know back in my day the "I'm the designated driver so everybody gets home alright" line worked pretty well - 7 years of partying underage and no MIPs. Just as long as you're looking all clear-eyed and shit you should be alright.
