*&#$%@& Republicans!

This may belong more in the rants and raves forum, but republicans and conservatives who are into electronic dance music seem to be an oxymoron to me. Why support a party which would totally crush the very thing this site is about? Makes about as much sense as gay republicans. I guess it's just a matter that hanging onto your wealth is more important than enjoying your rights.

some people consider politics to be primarily about social issues
some consider it to be primarily about foriegn policy issues

what party you align yourself with depends on which you consider to be most important

you are saying that Republicans and conservatives are giving up rights to keep cash? if so - which rights?

do not confuse the two - they may get along in general but a conservative will not call him or herself a republican

conservatives as a general rule are awfully concerned about not giving up either

political ideology doesn't include or exclude one from having good taste in music though - or would you disagree (do recall watching Al Gore dance to Fleetwood mac when you answer that one )

That's absolutely untrue.

But as a whole the electronic music community is a bit...liberal. One could argue that electronic music itself is a liberal concept, drug use could also file in this category, the openness of sexuality in this category, etc.

Sure, but you don't have to partake in the lifestyle to enjoy the music. I mean I'm not a fan of prison rape(usually) but I loved 'Oz'.

Agreed, the electronic music scene tends toward social liberalism.

But, conservatives, despite the confusion of many, really hold as a core value the right to be left alone - PLUR?

Many "conservatives" are "libertarian" when it comes to domestic social issues - which means that rather than an oxymoron it is common.

Not sure how to define the segment of the population that supports conservative foreign policy, fiscal restraint (that sure ain't republicans), limited gov't (again - not republicans), opposes... judicial activism, racial preferences, the war on drugs etc - - conservative foreign agenda with liberal view of social tolerance - not a liberal view of the role of the Gov't - - anyway

Well, what you generally hear as libertarians. The right part is usually implied, although I make the distinction because I am a left-libertarian. Surprisingly enough, the Libertarian Party exists for these people.

the party exists for which (left leaning or right leaning?

I always saw the internal disagreements (left/right) as far less meaningful than the agreements between the two

you may find this surprising - I voted for Harry Brown when Bush ran against Clinton

Libertarians are a rightist party. The difference between left and right libertarians is pretty much the difference between night and day. Right-libertarians are strict capitalists, and Left-libertarians are strictly anti-capitalism.
