![]() | Secret Service investigating Eminem
Eminem could find himself the subject of a Secret Service investigation if a lyric from one of his songs is construed to be a threat against President George W. Bush. In his song "We As Americans," Eminem rhymes, "F--- money/ I don't rap for dead presidents/ I'd rather see the president dead/ It's never been said, but I set precedents." "We As Americans" is one of the songs leaked online last week that Eminem's spokespeople said were unfinished tracks not intended for public release (see "Eminem's Benzino Dis Turns Up In The Lab" ). His reps could not confirm when the track in question was recorded. However, elsewhere in the song, Eminem references the release of 50 Cent's Get Rich or Die Tryin', which occurred in the last year. A person in the Secret Service Office of Public Affairs confirmed that they were aware of the song and were looking into the matter. John Gill, the official spokesperson for the Secret Service, was not immediately available for further comment. Even though Eminem doesn't mention Bush or the president of the United States specifically, it is standard procedure for the Secret Service to investigate anything that might be considered a threat against the president. |

I agree - even if he never said "Bush" in the lyrics. He may be a lot of things but I don't think I'd use the word fake.

The secret service didn't spend it - the Special Prosecutor's Office did And - it is not an animal of Republican heritage - even if Starr used it for his expensive fishing trip Having said that - the secret service has a duty to investigate things of this matter - it has nothing to do with republican or democrat - just politics. And - hats off to the tight-fisted, bottom line oriented democrats - watch dogs of the coutry's purse strings. Do not read this as hall pass for GWs ridiculous spending spree - simply pot calling kettle.

The secret service has a duty to follow up on threats to the President no matter how silly they may seem. You're quite right that no direct and specific commentary on when and how somebody should kill the President were made. But this doesn't change the duty of the Secret Service. Feel free to find it stupid - I do too - but it doesn't change a thing concerning the tasks assigned to the guys that protect GW.

Not in a case like this. The threat seems quite clear. In his song "We As Americans," Eminem rhymes, "F--- money/ I don't rap for dead presidents/ I'd rather see the president dead/ It's never been said, but I set precedents." He is saying he'd rather see the President dead than have money - but is it even remotely believeable that he'd kill Bush? I think we can all agree that we find it laughable that he'd do such a thing. Again - the incredibly low likelihood of harm doesn't remove the duty from the secret service - and the notariety of the comment would militate against ignoring the comment. bet this whole fiasco makes this his best selling record yet
