so CNN said something about putting Hussein on trial in Iraq.. creating a war tribunal.. and there has also been recent discussion about some of the POW's @ Guantanamo Bay that have been held for over two years.. could this war tribunal, if it ever makes it, be used to serve any of those @ Gitmo? or is that a different 'war'? are there Iraqi's being held in Cuba?

Yeehaw. That is really wonderful news. Now we get to find out if it'll be a closed military tribunal in which the gov't will further cover up testimony and information and exclude us from the truth. Or perhaps it'll go to an international war crimes court (doubtful), like the kind which we refuse to fully support because the international community refuses to totally assure we will not be tried in the same court for war crimes. It shall be interesting, indeed. Now off to a foreign location with him where Geneva convention and international standards for prisoner interrogation do not meet the unsavory criteria needed to extract the confessions we want. |

I seriously doubt, in this politically correct war, that we will even touch Saddam Hussein(literally). He will probably be sealed off in a room with glass walls so no one will be allowed to have physical contact with the man. Regarding the court system that will be put in place, I do believe that the Iraqi court system will decide on the faith of the former Iraqi regime figures. |

My understanding of those held in Gitmo is that they were captured in Afganistan or are otherwise associated with the Taliban. Which is not Iraq nor Baathist - apples and oranges. However, it may well get the ball rolling for those held in Cuba. Sadam - my guess is that he will be tried in the Hague.

I don't think confessions from Sadam will be needed to convict him of mass murder. I think the confessions will come from those last few supporters of Sadam who've yet to be captured, surrender or who've stayed quiet in captivity - - but the capture of Sadam may well loosen lips - - the last hope of a restoration of Sadam's regime has been dashed.

I was watching MSNBC just a bit ago and they were discussing the fact that he's most likely going to be tried under International Law because Iraq has no constitution or civil/criminal law set into place yet. And, it would be a symobolic trial for the Iraqis to have him tried there and not under a Military Tribunal. Obviously there is no question as to what he has done and the blatant verdict of guilty. Now, as per what they'll do to him.. I'm sure he'll be kept in some fancy glass-encased cell or something like that because he's such high priority... but sooner or later he's going to be delt the "punishment." It'll be interesting to see how that is gone about.. because on many levels, there might be more violence from his supporters if he is put to death publicly. That's a tough one!! Would've been alot easier if he was killed and not captured.. but hey, where's the fun in that right?? Yeah.. what a shocker!! It kinda lifts the veil off the whole situation over there... some stress off everyone's shoulders for sure. |

I think that is different all together... they mentioned that this war tribunal against the Saddam regime will be very similar to the tribunal setup against the Nazi regime. They are being put on trial for war crimes and crimes against humanity.... however, I don't think there will be any hanging sentences like they did the Nazi's though...
