Yes, I love how they split the footage, to make it look as if it was "kick ass" to kill an enemy combatant. Nice editing.

Did you read the transcript at all, or just watch the video? That video is a 26 second section of a 15 minute story about soldiers' conflicting emotions about their job.

This reminds me of the video from a gunship where they were targeting people and cars via an infared display in afghanistan...

it was weird.. they would move the lil cross-hair over targets and you'd hear a few guys say... ok, uh let's get the truck there first...

ok... ready...

and then a few moments later, you see the truck explode and everybody goes WOAH! ... hey... how about these guys over by the car here.... cool.... ready!

(explosion) WOAH!

it was like some odd ball video game...

ok, whatever your POLITICS on war are for the most part i dont care, unless youre just a kill monkey.

but, a soldiers psychology in combat is something im afraid I have to say in the old nam vet style "you werent there, you dont know what it was like"

but its true. for mellenia soldiers have had to alter thier state of conciousness to go into combat. to be fully cognisant that youre killing another human being makes you pause. in combat, you pause youre dead.
thats why combat drills in the military teach you to simply react and not think.
in combat the only overwhealming emotion you feel is fear for the most part. fear prevents thinking and reacting. therefore the military teaches you to simply react....to follow the lead, to do what youre told and youll survive.

now, after a while, soldiers get to the point where it overwhelms them. the fear and stress gets to them after a while. the down time allows you to think to yourself "wow, i killed another HUMAN BEING". when you begin to think these things you will go mad. in the american society were taught that killing is wrong, and despite what radical leftist thought teaches us, soldiers arent all psychotic killers. those guys out there have wives and kids, moms and dads. these soldiers begin to realise this and it eats thier hearts away.
ask any combat veteran and he'll tell you that the first time he killed a man and he knew it, it shattered his soul. the only way to maintain your sanity in prolonged combat is to do one of two things. go cold, or detatch.
to go cold is to just become a machine. go out kill come back, eat, sleep, kill, repeat dont think or soul will eat you.
to detatch is to no longer think of them as human. cause if youre killing a human then it will hurt your soul. the enemy isint human hes an animal, a killer, he'll kill you before you kill him if youre not carefull. he'll spit on your body and strip it, no human can do that, so he cant be human.....no he cant be human he cant be human he cant be human.

yes, there are those few out there that are total killers. the ones who get wood in combat, those that enjoy it. the rest of us soldiers dont like these guys ourselves. theyre likely to kill us to for shortchanging them in a card game. thier the ones that bayonet babies and shit. we hate those guys. the army will actually throw those guys out of the army. yes the army wants you to kill, but not enjoy it. to enjoy it makes you dangerous.

soldiers arent evil psycho fucks, were not brainwashed, and were not heartless. we dont enjoy killing, we have a regular job that we do, we want to go home to our wives and kids and never have to fight. if we had out choice we'd want a peacefull solution to the worlds problems outselves. but we know that thats not always possible, so we serve cause we believe in something.

yes, its confusing, no it makes no sense, but when has human nature ever made sense. when has anything a human being ever done made logical sense?
