| Carnival Float Goes A Little TOO Far?
A group in Rio de Janeiro apparently got a formal complaint from the Brasilian Catholic Church and threats of being banned and legal action based on a float they were designing that depicted Adam & Eve making love. The full story is here: http://story.news.yahoo.com/news?tmp...ondom_carnival Have they gone too far? Is it really acceptable for legal action to be pursued over a float? Is everything else that goes on during Carnival "okay"? |

First off, Adam and Eve's lovemaking is, by all Catholic accounts, the origin of human existence. It's pretty ridiculous that they would take offense to this. It's not as if the float depicted Jesus getting it on with Mary, as I have witnessed in art galleries. I think the Catholics and the liars who run that business - err, I mean church - should spend a little bit more time focusing on the pedafiles and rapists who represent their leadership instread of freaking out every time anyone depicts or speaks about sexuality. While they're at it, they might want to consider why a HUGE majority of their congregation is living in unthinkable poverty due to their ridiculous and archaic teachings at the same time Catholicism remains one of the wealthiest institutions on Earth. I'm not one to bash any religion or any denomination of a religion, but to say that the Catholic church has its priorities out of whack to an amazing degree is quite an understatement. |

Yeah I thought it was kind of laughable. Carnival is notorious for being sexually liberal (to put it lightly), so I found it amusing that the BCC suddenly has a problem with one of the floats (citing this one was "bordering on pornographic"). My post wasn't meant to express my opinion as being that they had gone too far, just a reflection of what the BCC felt in regards to the float. I've never been to Carnival (but I have been to NO for Madri Gras), but I'm aware at the kind of activity that occurs there. You would think a beautifully hand crafted float of Adam & Eve making love would be seen as probably having more artistic quality and beauty than most of the other floats and activities that occur at Carnival. It's not like they had Adam taking her from behind, slapping her ass. |

well as far as the catholic church goes, the irony of the entire festival (mardi gras included) is that it is the last fun u can have before the catholic season of lent... so basically it goes against the whole catholic thought... your not supposed to induldge in excess just because your going to have to fast and give stuff up for the next 40 days... your supposed to live normally, then on ash wed give something up and fast. its all quite laughable how the most debauched holiday came from a religious beginning... and esp such a hardcore religious beginning as catholicism.
