Amy got mine for me online. It's great and was less than $60. I think she got it on EBay. Records up to 320 minutes on one disc. The only thing I would change is if it had a USB to drop the wav onto the computer. They had one for the same price with a USB, but it was in Austrailia and she wanted it by Xmas.

I checked out Crutchfield.com and I couldn't find any portable MD players. If Crutchfield doesn't have it then I wouldn't know who does, besides eBay. I guess MP3 and iPod has taken over completely. Too bad MD just didn't really take off. I really loved the format back when I had my MD player/recorder.

yeah i've been trolling the craigslists and eBay with not much luck. i'm somewhat anti-eBay because of how low our cost of living is here in texas. you know, a hundred bucks to a new yorker is nothing, but down here, it's a decent chunck o' change.

i saw some at pawn shops for a decent price, but i haven't seen any recently. ah well. my hunt continues.

MD is a dying format, you wont be able to buy media for it in 5 more years. Its going the way of the Dat tape & Zip disk. Save your money for the next generation of flash/hd based digital recorders that will be hitting the streets this year.

yeah but they won't be near as low in price as a md recorder. one with a usb is a good enough replacement until the price drops some.

Just because it isnt popular in the consumer world doesn't mean its not something a certain end user needs. I know alot of people that still use DAT. Different formats of media yeild different playbacks of recorded sound. I'n 20 years that DAT or MiniDisk may have deteriorated in such a way that when you play it back you get some kinda cool effect...

Really just sayin, there's always a use for any type of media storage even if its on tape or disk.

Not exactly true. Like someone else said, for the basic consumer DAT and MD are not popular. However, in the entertainment industry and radio they are both used regularly... which makes it an affordable option for the basic person.

I had a badass Alpine MD head unit in my piece of shit Ford Fiesta when I was stationed in Naples, Italy...But being the dumbshit that I am, I sold the car when I left without taking it out...I miss it along with my MD recorder that I gave to my ex-girlfriend...
