![]() | Upgrading a laser?
i have no clue where i would post this so im just gonna post this here ![]() so i have a somewhat shitty chauvet red 4.95 MW laser and i was wondering if it would be possible to just put a higher output laser on it? ebay has a green 20mw laser for $150 just for the laser. http://cgi.ebay.com/20mW-532nm-Green...2em118Q2el1247 would it be risky to just replace my 4.95 mw with the 20 in my unit? |

I'm definitely no expert, but I think you'd have to upgrade the power supply as well. 20mw green would look pretty sick though. You might want to consider one of the 10mw fat beams, though, as you don't need permits for them.

![]() i really know very little about lasers at all lol. does the beam width varry that much? that could be the big difference in the price factor from something like this and something like a $5,000 30mw show laser. | |

on the 10mw... just found this. http://cgi.ebay.com/650nm-10mW-laser...QQcmdZViewItem how much brighter would this 10mw green be than my 5mw red? i was just so disapointed when i used my 5mw for DJing. you could only see it when there was NO other lights on and could still hardly see it with fog. only reason why i say 20mw is cuz i've seen them in action and the difference is HUGE |

i would recommend doing some research on your laser 1st. the board, circuitry and power supply might not be rated for a 300% increase no matter how low you think it is. i would hate for you to put the 20mw in and fry something then be without a laser period. (and out some cash) kinda like not hooking a car battery to your tv remote. |
