are you thinking some happy go lucky soul will let you barrow 20K$ worth of gear out of the goodness of their own heart?

I think you are looking for DMX dimmers to plug regular shit into, not a DMX black light. DMX is cool but programming for it can take some time. You probably cant use just any old controller either. You probably need something like light jockey, or some other USB controller.
