I have been kinda wondering when this would happen. With the new CDJ's on the market I cant really think of a reason for a new dj to need or want actual turntables anymore. The technology has shifted with the new generation and soon its only going to be the old guys left with vinyl.

Not all that true. There are still young djs that like to spin vinyl. We get them coming into Remix RECORDS all the time. Not as many as in the past but theyre still out there. Almost all the djs that scratch or juggle beats prefer turntables wether they use vinyl or digital as there medium. Some people like there music to be physical cause mp3s are invisible.

Lately it seems that I know 10 dj's that only have CDJ's for every 1 dj that has tables....and the ones with tables generally have had them for years and also have CDJ's. This is some what correct but not true. I sell around 20-30 decks a year. now I have seen a bit of a decline but most Dj's do perfer the feel of TT's w/ use of Serato over cd mixing/ controlling.

yeah for sure. I just got my decks refurbed so I could use serato instead of cd players. I still have a huge amount of vinyl, but for songs i don't have on vinyl, serato w/the tt control is way better than cd's to me.

while ive been toying with the idea of getting a laptop thing, it will only be for my new stuff...i will keep all my old stuff on vinyl and will not convert it. The same way i dont have any of my old vinyl burned to cd....i will always play at least SOME vinyl. Vinyl will never totally disappear. Although the numbers of people using it are lower, the numbers are still to great to dismiss...and as of lately have been rising again as more people are becoming informed about the pros of sound quality where vinyl is concerned

agreed scotty, That's the same boat I'm in. There is so much new stuff that i'd rather control w/a turntable than cd player. but my old records will always be records, and not converted.......

I see that it is the house jocks defending turntables. Interesting.

In any event, I think once the next big thing comes along, probably in a Serato-type interface without all the cons of awkward and lengthy setup, timecode fuckups, etc. that happen between the laptop and the physical medium of Serato record or CD, the final nail will be driven through the coffin that is vinyl.

I still could use a $125 1200 to keep around to rip records though if anyone has another for sale at this price.

And when they can buy decks for $125 why drop the huge coin on CDJs?

Point is, as Kevin noted, CDJs punctured the value of 1200s.
