New Infraction Policy 03/27/2007

In an effort to standardize the infraction policy on DDM and remove some of the arbitrary points being handed out, here's how we're going to award the infractions. When a user does something against the rules(let's say bumping a thread) they get 1 point for their first offense. This point will be active for 7 days. If in that 7 day period they do something else illegal, they get a 2nd infraction worth 2 points. If they have 2 active infractions and do something against the rules they get their 3rd offense which is worth 3 points, and so on through the 5 point scale. These point totals are cumulative while they are active, so if a user gets a 2nd infraction they will be up to 3 points(1 point for the 1st, 2 for the 2nd). If the user gets a 3rd offense their total jumps to 6 points at which time their account will be put into a new usergroup that's essentially the equivalent of being put into 'Time Out' until one of the infractions expires and drops them below the 6 point total. If they're already at 6 points and they get another infraction they'll be bumped to 10 points(so they got 4 points for the 4th infraction) and be banned for 7 days. A 5th infraction gets them to 15 points where they're banned for 2 weeks.

To re-iterate - and I think this is an important point - we're only adding to active infractions. They could have a dozen infractions on their record but if they've all expired then the user is starting from scratch and only getting 1 point. Since this is a new policy I'm going to expire all active infractions so everyone is starting from 0.

Summary:
1st offense: 1 point
2nd offense: 2 points
3rd offense: 3 points
4th offense: 4 points
5th offense: 5 points

6 points: 'Time Out'
10 points: 1 week ban
15 points: 2 week ban
