![]() | Pack Your "Dufflebags", We're Going Back To Wally World! April 23rd!!
Last year we had so much fun at Wally World we've decided to go back...... MVM Presents..... WALLY WORLD 2 join us on April 23rd as we get National Lampoon on dat ass! Replacing Chevy Chase as Mr. Griswald... Wally Callerio - Los Angeles, CA (Duffelbag, All World Entertainment,Digibag.com) Wally Callerio is not a musician. He believes that calling himself one would lower the standard of the word and its meaning. This seemingly noble and refreshing statement is, in truth, indicative of his personality. Wally is, however, a DJ and a producer whose foundation is built on the feeling of house music, rather than its use as an accessory in an industry of cool. Along with its tangible entity as a musical genre, there is an element to the sound of house that ignites the soul. This is a fact that serves as a point of agreement for those who may be referred to as connoisseurs and fans. “There are real musical characteristics in house,” says Wally. “It’s a bit more melodic and has way more soul than other sounds.” Wally has been playing records since he was a little kid. He acquired his first decks at the age of fourteen and began playing outside of his bedroom in 1994. Since then, time in Wally’s world has been passing much as it does while watching the world from the window of a moving vehicle. In 1996, his DJing schedule began to fill up; two years later, falling into line with the scene’s most respected legends, he founded his own label, Dufflebag Recordings. “What I play and what I like to listen to affect my producing more than anything,” says Wally. “My style goes hand in hand with my label. Having a label is a really selfish way of putting out music that I want to hear on vinyl.” In addition to masterminding Dufflebag, Wally has been consistent with his outside projects since launching his label in 1997 with his first original production, “Déjavu/Whispers.” He has releases on Life, Shaboom (U.K.), Panhandle, Elektric Soul, Aroma and Alluv. Currently, he is collaborating with DJ Jonene (Panhandle) as The Shady Agents as well as with Natural Rhythm (Thomas White and Pete Williams) as the Topewa Project. Citing the honorable influences of Derrick Carter and Mark Farina, Wally’s style can be classified by chunky beats and deep bass lines; regular eerie goodness. The vocals and melodies border perfection; driving funk laced with percussion and brass composes his very true form of dance music. In the same fashion as deep house, Wally possesses an intrinsic sense of musical integrity, which has fortunately spilled outward to invade his production outlets. His reputation as a producer has opened up a completely new world in relation to his double-sided career. He has not solicited himself or sold his products door to door; the devil does not hold his soul because it remains safely encased in his music. “Things have grown slowly over time for me,” says a contented Wally. “I want to have a lot of substance. I think substance will carry you a lot further than just pushing yourself. When you get there, it will be for a reason. At the age of six, Wally was transplanted from the East Coast to the West and has since resided in Huntington Beach. During the rambunctious ascension of the West Coast house music scene in the early 90s, he was inevitably bit by the bug attending parties like Doc Martin’s ‘Unlock the House.’ As one of the era’s countless offspring, Wally’s musical tastes continued to develop until reaching maturity. “You have to be in that right instance at the right time,” he muses. “Like at a club where it’s going off; then, it’s on for the rest of your life. I think that’s what happens to everyone.” Just like the genre as a whole, Wally and his music have grown up over the past few years. At a mere 27 years old, he can still be considered a youngster in an industry that is flooded with veterans. “Deep house has been around for so long, and over time it has grown larger and larger,” says Wally. “Other music blows up overnight; it is ‘here today, gone tomorrow’ type music. Deep house has actually grown up and it has achieved its validity through people feeling it.” Recently, Wally has signed on with DJ Sneak’s Toronto-based management company, All World Entertainment. Piling this on top of his flourishing production roster and hectic DJ schedule, it is predicted that he will begin to pursue more opportunities abroad. More importantly though, he will be enabled to continue doing what he loves, which is playing and making music. “It’s like being in love,” says Wally, struggling to describe his feelings for music. “You can’t explain love. It’s just something that you feel.. (from www.allworldentertainment.com) And as the rest of the family... Been waiting on Wally's return for quite some time now. His set at RBC the first time was my favorite set of '04. Had everyone on the dancefloor on the same page, dancing till the music stopped. Do not sleep on this one.
