My mom and dad used to take me to this little bar in Houston called Anderson Fair. They serve wine only. The first time they took me it was to see 'this guy with really weird hair who tells stories like no other'. Lyle Lovett. The place held no more than 50 people. Sooooooo cool. I saw Nancy Griffith there alot too... another fantastic story-teller. Lyle Lovett 'If I Had A Boat' If I had a boat I'd go out on the ocean And if I had a pony I'd ride him on my boat And we could all together Go out on the ocean Me upon my pony on my boat If I were Roy Rogers I'd sure enough be single I couldn't bring myself to marrying old Dale It'd just be me and trigger We'd go riding through them movies Then we'd buy a boat and on the sea we'd sail And if I had a boat I'd go out on the ocean And if I had a pony I'd ride him on my boat And we could all together Go out on the ocean Me upon my pony on my boat The mystery masked man was smart He got himself a Tonto 'Cause Tonto did the dirty work for free But Tonto he was smarter And one day said Kemosabe Kiss my ass I bought a boat I'm going out to sea And if I had a boat I'd go out on the ocean And if I had a pony I'd ride him on my boat And we could all together Go out on the ocean Me upon my pony on my boat And if I were like lightning I wouldn't need no sneakers I'd come and go wherever I would please And I'd scare 'em by the shade tree And I'd scare 'em by the light pole But I would not scare my pony on my boat out on the sea And if I had a boat I'd go out on the ocean And if I had a pony I'd ride him on my boat And we could all together Go out on the ocean Me upon my pony on my boat She's No Lady She hates my mama She hates my daddy too She loves to tell me She hates the things I do She loves to lie beside me Almost every night She's no lady she's my wife The preacher asked her And she said I do The preacher asked me And she said yes he does too And the preacher said I pronounce you 99 to life Son she's no lady she's your wife And I can't remember How I met her Seems like she's always just been hanging here off my right arm And I can't remember How I ever Thought that I just couldn't live without a woman's charm And even though She loves the smell of French perfume And even though She walks around in high-heel shoes All I know Is I'm the one who pays her price Man she's no lady she's my wife And I can't remember How I met her Seems like she's always just been hanging here off my right arm And I can't remember How I ever Thought that I just couldn't live without a woman's charm Yea she hates my mama She hates my daddy too She loves to tell me She hates the things I do She loves to lie beside me Almost every night She's no lady she's my wife

IT's cool that you know who Nancy Griffith is. I LOVE her song 'Love at the five and dime'. Alot of people don't know that she recorded alot of Julie Gold's songs before Bette Midler made them big hits... like Wind Beneath My Wings and From A Distance... and in my opinion, she does them alot better. Wow. You know Nancy Griffith. Cool. I'm gonna have to go home and pull out my albums now. Nancy Griffith Love @ The Five & Dime Rita was sixteen years Hazel eyes and chestnut hair She made the Woolworth counter shine And Eddie was a sweet romancer And a darn good dancer And they waltzed the aisles of the five and dime CHORUS: And they'd sing Dance a little closer to me Hey, dance a little closer now Dance a little closer tonight Dance a little closer to me Hey, it's closing time And love's on sale Tonight at this five and dime Verse: Eddie played the steel guitar And his mama cried 'cause he played in the bars And he kept young Rita out late at night Soon they married up in Abelene Lost a child in Tennessee But still that love survived CHORUS One of the boys in Eddie's band Took a shine to Rita's hand So , Eddie ran off with the bass man's wife Oh, but he was back by June Singin' a different tune Sporting Miss Rita back by his side CHORUS Eddie played in the barroom band 'Til arthritis took his hands Now he sells insurance on the side And Rita's got her house to keep She sells dime store novels with a love so sweet And they dance to the radio late at night and still sing CHORUS

yeah... you're right... she does spell it with an I. Lone Star State of Mind... hell yesssss. I NEVER thought I would be talking to someone on DDM about Nanci Griffith. Wild. I listen to 95.3 ALOT. They play tons of Texas country. You know who Jesse Dayton is? www.jessedayton.com He's a real good friend of mine. Next time he comes in town, I'll let you know. It would be a cool place to finally meet and have a few Lone Stars. June 25 Denton, TX Dan's Silver Leaf
