![]() | Fort Knox Five/Thunderball Steve Raskin and Jon Horvath June 30 FREE
Playas and Playettes- Thursday, June 30, will be a funky good time as the guys from Fort Knox Recordings, Steve Raskin(also 1/2 of Thunderball), and Jon Horvath, will grace the 1 Year anniversary of Obar with their funky ass music. If you haven't caught Steve's or Jon's set, here's what you can expect in one word, funk. They may play at 100 bpms or 160 bpms or anywhere in between. These guys play, funk, hip hop, breaks, funky breaks/house, mash ups, dnb, and all expertly mixed. The style is very similar to Ursula 1000, and they actually dj together a lot(Jon and Alex/Ursula played NYE together). Steve Raskin and Sid Barcelona, collectively known as Thunderball, started the Fort Knox Recordings label to make funky party jams. The Fort Knox Five is Steve, Sid, Jon Horvath as the labels DJ and Promoter, and Rob Myers the Sitar/Guitar player from Thievery Corporation. The largest project they have done to date was with Afrika Bambaataa, producing four cuts for the latest album, and the 1st single "Got that Vibe", a sitar driven, 130 BPM breaks cut. For their fifth “official” release, the FK5 join forces with the godfather of hip-hop, Afrika Bambaataa to spread knowledge and consciousness against the forces that be... with this politically motivated hip hop thriller. Remix by the always funky, A. Skillz and Krafty Kuts(Breaks Headz listen up). www.thunderballdc.com www.fortknoxrecordings.com Should be a great time, and its 100% free, so no excuses, just come downtown and get your ass in gear. Obar is on 1602 Main, in between Neimans and the Iron Cactus. |
