Roger Sanchez: Lush

If you like sexy house and tribal...I just bought my copy of Roger Sanchez' new CD called Lush http://www.twistedhouse.com/reviews.php?id=63

For the fifth installment of the A|X [Armani Exchange] Series, A|X Teams up with Star 69 & Stealth bringing a selection of Tribal House, Latin Flavoured Rhythms and Smooth Sounds to our ears mixed by Grammy Award Winning Producer: Roger Sanchez and titled Lush.

From the very beginning of this mix, things start out in a smooth and sultry vibe with a great intro remix by David Vendetta of Sueno Soul’s “Tempo Da Solo”. What I like about Roger Sanchez most, is his ability to mix different styles seamlessly without making them sound out of place and this can be heard in the next track titled: “Breathe Again” by We Deliver. This is a classic vocal and piano driven house track which shows off the tastes of Roger Sanchez. After the third track eases in, with its funky bass line i'm somewhat reminiscent of more recent Armand van Helden tracks with all the funk and the deep bass lines. The compilation moves through the Latin influenced flavoured Nu Rhythmix's “Babylon” with its light vocals and fast paced rhythms, featuring some light beats and shakers. One of the more notable tracks here has to be “You Should’ve Said [I Love You]” by Angel Moraes and Dana Divine on vocals, not only that but some good remix work by Mr Sanchez Himself.

As the cd progresses so does the music and the vibe turns around with Carl Kennedy's Mix of Raindance by Steven Mestre & Wilson Santos, a track which also featured on the Release Yourself series. A rather short edit is featured here but the solid bass line and beat goes well with the atmosphere of this compilation and even more so with “Save Our Souls” by Muzzaik which is the next track in this mix. Some great production work here by Zsolt Milichovski & Daniel Dalmady aka Muzzaik which shows off a combination of tribal with some funk thrown in on the side going down well with the progression of tracks on this compilation. As we reach the halfway mark with wonderful progressive house which can be heard through “8 Letters” by Holmes Ives featuring the vocals of Avalon Frost, and notably when looking at this mix, it can be said that it moves through a mix of sultry sounds, smooth vocals, Latin based rhythms, tribal elements and some good progressive house and a good example of this is “8 Letters”.

One of the most talked about tracks in the Scumfrog camp must be Scumfrog’s and Cevin Fisher’s “Let The Sun Shine In”. This track is somewhat of a break from the sound that’s been progressing thus far and it takes the vibe back into more of an afterclub mode. It's very much of a summer sounding record in my opinion and having heard about this collaboration in early January, its good to finally hear the wonderful result especially on this compilation. Another track featured here is by the talented Angel Moraes who always seems to deliver quality productions, this time in the form of “Music Is Your Life” which follows well in the groove of compilation as well as the high standard of tracks chosen for this mix. “La Noche” by Coca & Villa is a track I’ve been waiting a while to hear especially on a compilation, as it features some great elements and the combination of a smooth Spanish guitar with solid progressive beats, making this track a great success in my opinion. The compilation comes to an end with Lotta Love features combined with the Acapella of Soul Providers “Rise” featuring M. Shellers.

Overall I have to say that the standard of the Armani Exchange compilation has always been high and this compilation mixed by Roger Sanchez is no different. With all the versatility on this mix and the quality tracks, it really just goes to show the versatility of Roger Sanchez and what he's really capable of. The only downside is that maybe some of the track edits and mixes were a bit short but all in all it’s another successful release through Star 69 & Armani Exchange.
